I can quite see MS doing it again just before launch.
Rumor: Windows 7 discounted pre-orders will come again
"Posted by Al in Windows 7 News on 08 10th, 2009
Microsoft allowed pre-orders for Windows 7 at half-price in Canada, US, and Japan a couple of weeks ago. The problem with this is that it was not something that was advertised strongly and most of the non tech-savvy community never got word of it at all.
Gizmodo has been quietly mentioning this in some of their Windows 7 articles for quite some time now so I felt it would only be right to pass the message on. The tech blog thinks that another set of deals will be coming near launch, “plus… [they've] heard some stuff.”
It might be a good idea to hold off on pre-ordering a copy for now until we’re closer to launch."

Hopefully we'll start seeing some discounts on the full versions as well as those seen so far on the retail upgrade editions. It would be great to even some of those on the Ultimate not just Home Premium and Professional editions while some retail chains or online vendors still have their own options available in order to draw in business as well.
I can quite see MS doing it again just before launch.
At the bare minimum, they're supposed to be doing the family 3-packs for a period starting around launch time, and each license would work out the same as the prior pre-orders.
There's little to no benefit pre-ordering at full list price right now, especially when it doesn't even guarantee you get something day of release.
It's friggin embarrasing is what it is!
I've been a tedious bore with all and any of my colleagues who I know have a computer at home and use it occasionally.
Firstly I've rambled on for months about how great W7 is and how they should buy it.
Then I told them they could pre-order it for a mere £47. A few said they might just to shut me up.
Now I've berated them for missing the boat and gloated over the fact that they won't be able to run XP for much longer and they will then be forced to buy it at full price.
If MS start selling it cheap again I won't be able to tell them!

PS Aren't you glad you don't have to work with me
I already knew enough to find myself waiting until October anyways since nothing in the way of discounts has been seen on the Ultimate editions at this point. The preorder discounts were directed towards promoting the Home Premium and Pro editions there.
As the launch date approaches you'll see some types of promotional offers for 7 similar to what was seen for Vista. I think more people will grabbing up any new discounts that come along at this point even if they are still running 2000, XP, Vista being current, and even a Linux distro since 7 is worth the effort.
That would be great if a discount is offered on the Ultimate edition! I've already preordered 2 of the professional upgrade versions for 2 other PCs. If the family pack comes out, I'll definitely cancel the preorder and go with that for the other PCs in my house but I want the Ultimate edition on my main PC.
i have the premium version on preordor for £50. If they do lower the price how much do you guys think ultimate will go down buy? because its expensive and over £100 then premium for what..
I see a very soon to be Gold Member ... Vanna Pancake and a schmoke??
