I am willing to bet that Vista is going to be cheaper *from the initial launch* by $100 or more.

Hmm,
The way I read it is this
1. He likes the improvements - he praises them quite a lot.
2. He is not sure they are worth shelling out hundreds of dollars for.
He probably will get it - he's an enthusiast, like us. He probably overegged it to make a point.
The point is most people are not enthusisats - they won't want to shell again for an o/s - many of them will have only had Vista a short time - it will ship on new machines till 7 comes out.
Once 7 is released, it will replace replace Vista on new machines - by default it will sell a lot.
Vista sales will be dead in the water, as John says. Vista will continue to get security updates from M$ - but there won't be any real improvements/upgrades.

to me vista was more of a stepping stone....
something that was already destined to happen..
i mean this by saying that because like i said i see vista more of like nextstep (this was the gap between Mac OS 9 and OSX).....
this needed to happen since they the hardware industry needed the boost so that there would be demand for higher technologies (such as touch for example or a IGP that can actually be usuable for gaming [to a point i might add..lol])
my two cents (have a dime now...)
I think I'm going to side with the people saying he's sort of a whiner. Not in a horrible way, but a whiner none the less. I had a hard time respecting the article after he mentioned having a difficult time finding a replacement for Daemon Tools. Although I was disappointed to find that DT wasn't functional in 7, it took me about 5 seconds to find a very functional (and free) replacement. But maybe I'm just being a judgmental POS. Like my friend above said, that just my two cents!
In reference to that article, I'm going to quote my favourite Looney Tune, Bugs Bunny: "What a maroon!"
From that same article, David Murphy's last sentence is this:
Isn't this the same guy that said "I think I'll be going back to XP now..."???As for me? I think I'll go back to Vista for now...
