    So what do you think?
I'm not a fan of the new UI and the look and feel of the developer preview. If Win8 comes out and looks anything like the DP version, I'm planning to stick with Windows 7. 7 has been very solid, dependable and is setup the way that I like things. I see no reason to spend money upgrading my systems when the money spent simply wont' resolve any problems that I currently experience.

Although I loathe Metro, I feel obliged to point out that Windows 8 DP (on my PC):

    • Seems as fast as W7.
    • Uses 2/3 of the RAM that W7 does.
    • Has built-in AM/AV components.

I'm not to fussy for the Metro UI either, at least not on a regular desktop PC with no touch screen. I have the DP on my backup rig so Win 7 is still my go to daily user. I'll probably give the beta a try, assuming I can get my hands on it that is.

Looks like a big cell phone but with more finger prints from all the touching and poking. I would like to see how it works with mouse and keyboard. The on screen keyboard is for one finger poking at a time. How in the heck would one type like I'm doing now? Touch screen on a P/C is as useless as nipples on a sidewalk.
You still can use your regular keyboard and mouse. Like I originally mentioned it looks like win7 but has the overlay so you can use your touch screen monitors and pad screen.

I'm slow in the brain at times. I get it now, it looks like Windows 7 unless you use/permit the the overlay. That's good or I would need a 88 in. long arm. A silly question but I will ask it any way: can the cursor (mouse) be used with the overlay kind of like a finger?

Sounds like a good idea. Spending time with your kids is never time wasted.

Yes. If you don't have a touch screen the mouse can be used to select anything on the Metro screen.

I have seen and used every version of Windows (yes I'm that old lol) and yes they all looked different. If they didn't change the look no one will buy. LOL

Remember this is still beta and many part are left out from the final version.
I'm sure we will lots more information in the coming months before the release.
As far as I have heard it may be released in 2012 but no one is saying that in concrete. Actually I don't think we need another version for desktops because I feel Win7 has been the most outstanding Windows ever developed. For now I'm sticking with 7.
