Hmm is it only coming out in x64?
Despite being leaked to torrent sites earlier, the Windows Server 2008 R2 RTM has finally arrived for MSDN and TechNet subscribers, as well as ISVs and IHVs. Build 7600 will be available to the public on October 22, 2009.
Full Story: Windows Server 2008 R2 RTM arrives on MSDN and TechNet - Ars Technica
so if I was going to install this on a sever, should I get the Server 2008 R2 RTM, or just the Server 2008 with SP2 regular download from my technet account.
is this R2 RTM the same as the 7 RTM, as in it's the final product and will be same as the GA version.
Hi guys
already got it from technet and installed R2 version (Enterprise)
Works a treat.
Note however if you are using it as a HOME server and want to access it remotely you don't need any CAL licenses for up to 2 concurrent administrative sessions.
1) ensure your user is in the ADMINISTRATORS GROUP
2) start your remote session with the following switch
mtsc.exe /admin
If you don't do this you'll get a message License server can't be found 119 days of grace left (you get 120 so it counts down).
I use W2008 server to run a load of VM's so I don't need any CAL licenses.
RDP in admin mode is fine.
Cheers
