lol new logo looks a bit... bland to me.
Read more at:Microsoft first introduced its four-color Windows logo over two decades ago with the launch of Windows 3.0 in May 1990 and it's been waving ever since. It's been altered over the years, with the Redmond software giant adding color gradients, shading, reflections, and other artistry tidbits to maintain a modern flair, but with the launch of Windows 8, the familiar logo might undergo a somewhat radical makeover.
Maximum PC | Microsoft May Retire Wavy Windows Logo
Well, the original article isn't exactly correct - the four color flag logo came with Windows 3.1, NOT with Windows 3.0 (as written). The original 3.0 logo (May of 1990) had a retangular framed window, four panes, in two colors.
I no longer have my Win3.0 disks or printed materials but I distincly remember the first logo - I was an assistant manager of a CompuAd store at the time and Microsoft had a big push for Windows 3.0.
Here is a scan of the watch I was given as a spiff - you can see the original logo pretty well.
Looks like the "new" Win 8 logo is a "retro upgrade" of the original Win 3.0 logo - what's old is new again!

They should have asked PooManUK or Arc to design the logo. This one is to bland. IMHO
One of the reviews was spot on..."A third grader could have design a better looking logo!"

Well it fits with the bland square tile based metro UI...
They certainly are going "all in" with this. It'll either be a revolutionary intro into a new world of computer interfaces dominating for the next decade or... a complete flop.
I'm all for new and exciting dynamic interfaces but at the same time against the complete playskoolification that is going on now. So I can't tell one way or another which way it'll go and that's the scary part. The whole thing is looking WAY too much like an modern version of Microsoft Bob
