Indeed its good news.
I got my HP for £45 with free next day delivery. Not bad for a full OS.
I also think its the second option, a one off. but im not complaining.
Dave.
SourceWe've been doing some investigating, friends -- making phone calls, demanding answers. And it was worth it. We can confirm something very few people get to confirm: British shoppers aren't going to be totally shafted over software pricing for once. Full versions of Windows 7 Home Premium are going to cost us half as much as they cost Americans.
In the UK, full versions of Windows 7 Home Premium -- not an upgrade edition -- are going to cost around £65 ($106). That's less than the price the Yanks have to pay just for an upgrade version -- $120 (£72) -- and about half what they'll have to cough up for a full version -- $200 (£122).
Amazon.co.uk is already selling the full version of Home Premium for £65, and Play.com is selling it for a little more at £75, but with free delivery. Incidentally, this is the version that includes Internet Explorer 8 -- the Windows 7 E editions have now been scrapped.
An Amazon.co.uk spokesperson told us to treat this pricing as "indefinite". We asked Microsoft for comment on the pricing disparity, but it's yet to get back to us. Our best guess is that it's honouring its pricing for Windows 7 E, which was cheaper because an upgrade wasn't possible.
Anyway: good news, everyone! For once, we can sit back and watch Americans shafting Americans, instead of us. Over pricing, that is. Is this the end of rip-off Britain, or a glorious one-off? Sadly, we suspect the latter, but let us know what you think in the comments.

after being shafted for so many years, i find this claim difficult to believe.
i know you can pre-order home premium now for £65 @ amazon and elsewhere, but come oct 22, prices are due to rise to £150.
it would be nice if this price-cut claim were true, but i suspect it's just another case of poor journalism...
i'm still holding out on my family-pack hope...
Already pre-ordered my Professional for £99.
Hi all
I've been visiting the UK for YEARS and it's even since I was a tiny boy the UK has always been known as "Rip-off Britain".
This is indeed GREAT NEWS for people on that embattled isle on the outposts of Europe (although I LOVE UK Footie).
BTW exporting from the UK is a doddle -- you don't have to pay UK VAT either so for once those "on the other side of the Pond" can do what Europeans have been doing for years --import the stuff.
Shipping is usually pretty good - to the US should only take two days or so.
Cheers
jimbo.

Hope it's true, that would make a change. UK consumers always get ripped off.
The reason why we are getting it so cheap is because by the time the EU have finished telling MS what they can't put on their own OS we'll be left nothing more than a DOS boot up screen.
No surprise. We in the US usually get shafted - look at what we pay for pharmaceuticals manufactured in our own country versus what they pay elsewhere (that's why so many Americans order from Canada).
