This logo looks very boring - but it reflects Windows 8 well.

Well, it reflects the new Metro UI :P. Not a fan of it.

    I'll miss that old flag...

If it's anything like as popular as Vista was in the desktop & notebook marketplace it'll be virtually free from major OEM's... and $125 for the base version for everyone else...

Earlier in February, Internet leaks showed that Microsoft was creating a new Windows logo for the launch of Windows 8. At the time of the reports, Microsoft didn't confirm or deny any plans to change the logo and some writers even said it was a hoax. Today, Microsoft revealed that the reports were true and that it was indeed redesigning the logo for Windows 8.

The sad part is they most likely paid some "artist" a few grand to come up with that kindergarten level work.

Wow....I don't know what to say to it. I mean, the four color, red, green, blue, yellow flag we have all become used to and know to be curvy and all is...gone.

But stepping back to take in the whole picture, I must say this. The Start logo of days far gone used to be a blowing pixelated flag and every PC keyboard had that logo for the Start button. Until 2000/Xp, that was the norm. Past then, it became a flag that we all know and love today. It later morphed to an orb that corresponded to every keyboard to being a picture of an orb, a circle and the flag, or an imbedded orb and flag. Now for Windows 8, it's been changed radically like Windows 8 itself is a radical redesign of the operating system we have all grown up on, use everyday, and enjoy.

The new logo itself does actually reflect the Windows brand. Nowhere was there ever anything wavy windows wise in the OS. A windows looks like a square or a rectangle. The logo itself doesn't really reflect that. Though the new logo feels bland almost to some, it's the reflection of Windows. It's what Windows 8 is: metro designed. It's fluid, it's animated, it's new and different to the rest out there. It should have a logo to reflect that.

As for myself, I'm glad there still will be a Start logo, I don't know if it can be called a flag. For a brief moment, I honestly was somewhat against upgrading to 8 because of those screenshots of 8 that showed the lack of a Start button, or well, a hot corner as it was being called. I hope the Start button stays where it is and does what the current developer preview build does, putting you into the Start Screen.
