One of the things we've known about Windows 7 for a few weeks is that it would contain fewer bundled applications than Vista did. Instead, these apps would be provided separately, under the Windows Live branding. This has been done with several aims. One, Microsoft wants to end the confusion that occurs with Vista and XP, where someone may have Windows Messenger, MSN Messenger, and Windows Live Messenger installed simultaneously. Two, the company wants to be able to release and update these programs without having to tie their timelines to those of the base platform.
