Not sure there is much to do about it. That is pretty much why so many have given up (people don't vote as they believe their vote doesn't even matter). We have the choice between two weak political figures in office. and if we get a strong leader, their efforts are diluted by the rest.
I forgot to mention that the confusing laws have increased the rate of people who sue other people. While it isn't bad in principle, there are groups of people who wait as highwaymen to prey upon any chance they get to sue someone. The rate of people sueing others has increased so much more than it used to be. That is disguesting. Even more disguesting is how common joe blow can get millions of dollars out of the legal system with good lawyers when he by far never deserved it. Because you slipped on some milk in a store and broke your hand, you now get 3 million? WTH?
That's why this need to be reset, checking what government does is the best way if anarchy is not an option... most of the times people let's their government to do whatever they want without asking why...
Now I can agree with you, however the reset that you mention is not a simple flick of the switch. For any government to function half-way right requires that everyone becomes involved to the extent possible in all issues, yet we know that is not the nature of people. That only leaves the option of creating a strong enough swell in public awareness and interest, that it is not a current that any politicians desires to swim against. Potentially, public opinion is a far stronger force than any lobby, regardless of how many dollars are behind it.
Still, that switch must be thrown multiple times as necessary, if the current that it creates isn't strong enough to place a permanent fear in the politician's minds.
Aand we're back to it being the Media's responsibility.
