P.S. PParks1, have you used the Release Preview yet? It is much better than the Consumer Preview and I think you will like it more.

Tried out the Release Preview today. Unfortunately, I don't find it any more appealing than I did before.

First 30-45 minutes spent trying to figure out why I could not run multiple metro apps on the same screen. Kept reading that I had to use the "snap" feature. Then, found out that snap feature required higher resolution than I was running. Now, that I have higher resolution enabled, I can snap, but I can only run 2 apps, and one gets 2/3 of the screen, and the other 1/3 of the screen and that's that.

Then, spent nearly 15 minutes trying to locate a way to change the actual time, from the metro charms settings bar. I can change the time zone, but not the actual time. Had to get to the time setting from the "real" desktop.

As I am running Windows 8 in a virtual environment, using the corners as hot spots isn't exactly ideal, as my mouse will seamlessly move away from Windows 8 VM and back to Windows 7 host machine. Thus, it's harder for me to discover some of these hidden features than should be necessary.

I find this new interface outrageously non-intuitive. As a power user, I am having to Google everything and watch YouTube videos. And with all of the changes from the various versions of Windows 8 thus far released, the info available is all over the place and so much of it simply isn't correct anymore.

I'm unsure if I could dislike Windows 8 any more than I do.
I could not agree with you more. I have it installed in VMware player just for the sake of it really.

I'm not going to get too technical but I can honestly say after trying it out in Virtualbox I shall be giving Windows 8 a miss when it's released.
I just don't think it works on desktops at all.

    Hi there.
the Achilles heel of W8 is the Metro thingy.

It is obviously designed for mobile / tablet users - but even here it springs a nasty surprise --try it on a Netbook with a screen resolution of 1024 X 600 which a lot of tablets etc have and you get "Your Screen Resolution is too low to run this application". Now if I can run Photoshop I should be able to run some horrid little metro app like "weather" or "Stock price" !!.

The lack of being able to have multiple windows open AND VISIBLE concurrently will guarantee that W8 never sees the light of day in an Office type environment.

I often need to translate documents, compare data results on spreads sheets, make presentations etc all of which need documents to be visible side by side and I'm sure most REAL users do too. We aren't only surfing the net or playing movies on our computers.

The speed and performance of W8 is great and the desktop part is fine --but they need to strip this away from Metro.

Note that you can use a clone of W7 start menu in W8 Release preview using "Classic Shell"

    Welcome to Classic Shell

Here's a screenshot of my W8 RP system with "Classic Shell".

    Cheers

    Hi there
don't forget you can customize it too --- look for settings==>classic shell once you've installed it as the default on W8 is "Metro".

The more i used the Release Preview, the less I liked it, too. I deleted it. I have a feeling that I'm gonna be rockin' Windows 7 for several years to come.

Unless MS gives the users a choice of using a boot to desktop default UI selection, I will NOT be buying Windows 8.

I understand that the basic code is improved over Windows 7 but this metro crap being forced on me as a customer will not fly.

And I totally don't understand the mentality of having a dedicated "metro app" for stuff like
    1). Remote desktop
    2). wikipedia.

I mean, for pete's sake, this crap does NOT need it's own full screen, high resolution application. Since when is opening a web browser and viewing Wikipedia too much to ask.
