    DirectX August 2009 update arrives

    Posted: 12 Sep 2009
The August 2009 update for DirectX has been released on the Microsoft Download Center (103.3MB) in the following localized languages: Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional), Czech, Dutch, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian, and Swedish. The DirectX end-user installation includes all the latest and previous released DirectX runtimes, including the bimonthly D3DX, XInput, and Managed DirectX components.

This release of DirectX is supposed to work on x86 and x64 versions (if available) of Windows 2000, Windows ME, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7, and Windows Server 2008 R2. Users should remember that once this update is installed, it cannot be uninstalled.

As usual, Microsoft only noted that the download consists of security and performance updates. The DirectX end-user multilanguage redistributable is meant for developers to include with their product and is recommended for users who do not have an internet connection.

Redmond has also posted the August 2009 version of the DirectX SDK on the Microsoft Download Center (553.3MB). Every DirectX SDK release contains updates to tools, utilities, samples, documentation, and runtime debug files for x64 and x86 platforms. Developers will want to check out the what's new as well as the known issues sections before downloading. Support and more information is available at the Microsoft DirectX Developer Center on MSDN.
