The initial rapid sequence of changes was a signal of a new company attempting to find its identity. They found it with Windows, started dominating the market, and stayed with that identity for 25 years. Now they are fresh out of ideas that actually work so they once again are searching for a new identity without really taking time to understand the identity that made them great. They assumed it was that they controlled the market and that the market would accept any kind of crap they pushed out the door. However, it was the fact that the prior versions of windows allowed the market to choose the look and feel on an individual bases. Windows 8 stops that cold.

Apparently you think it's OK. I think it stinks. I can't use Windows 8 for my purposes BECAUSE I can't choose to configure it so that it looks and works MY way. I am the customer here and I get to decide what is right for me for my own reasons! It is totally irrelevant to me that others find Windows 8 OK.

Personally I believe the logo is an obvious choice, though I was sure it would be used for Windows 9.

In case you haven't noticed, Microsoft is in the process of changing up their products to adapt to a world where people are starting to use smartphones and tablets instad of laptops and desktop computers. The previous Microsoft logo is from an era where Windows more or less operated the same since inception, and is to an extent becoming antiquated. Even Apple changed their logo when they ported their operating system to a unix kernel.

Although Apple simplified their logo to one color to save costs...

It's most proberly the best they could come up with using ms paint , it's unbelievably poor, but MS are to tight arsed to out source and come up with some fresh ideas, plus they will end up in court for years to come after stealing someone else's logo then claiming it was their idea from the beginning

One of the poorest re-designs I've ever come across
Yes, It is in keeping with the metro thing.

You can do some work arounds - with effort, hacks and 3rd party programs - but still it comes up short.

That is because we want Windows on a desktop pc.

Win8 is not for that. It is for a tablet.

The desktop users are being deprecated as MS chases a mythical tablet user they think they can ensnare.

How does it feel to be deprecated - like a windows program they have lined up for the chop?

An eighth grade school kid, or first grade, could have done better logo design. They likely paid someone hundreds of thousands of M$$ to come up with it.
I'm sticking with w7 since I have real computers.

Clearly we have a difference of opinion that cannot be resolved. I require things to service my needs, wants, and preferences for maximum productivity. Others are comfortable only when they fit in with a crowd and can only do things the way everyone else is doing them. Apparently, actual productivity is of a lower priority for them.

I am not, never have been, and never will be part of the crowd. I choose my own path. Up until Windows 8, Microsoft permitted both the crowd and the individual to have things their way. Now it is the crowd's way or nothing. I see this as a monumentally stupid error on Microsoft's part. They insist on chasing the fad of the moment. For the vanishingly little good it does me, I object!

A company makes a logo. The logo will not make the company. When a company goes down some strange road a new logo will not help. The road is still strange.
