I've used Hotmail as my primary e-mail client for years, and only have a GMail due to my Android phone, whereby I had to create a GMail just to download apps. In fact, I rarely even use e-mails anymore as a method of communication; only when I'm applying for jobs does my e-mail get used.

Gmail became available to the general public in 2007. For about a year or so before that, it was available only by invitation (although getting an invitation wasn't hard).

My oldest Gmail is dated January 2005 so I must be somewhat of an old timer.

I use it for every company that I deal with plus all of my forums. In addition, I give my Gmail address to friends who don't understand what .bcc means.

I have both Hotmail and gmail accounts. The thing which impresses me about gmail is that it's spam filters are excellent. Far better than hotmail, IMO.

    Hi there
the thing that sells GMAIL to me is the integration with OUTLOOK -- I don't like webmail based interfaces as a rule -- always have preferred OUTLOOK as an email client . Now I just open up outlook and can send / receive GMAIL account(s) just like regular non GMAIL account(s) .

Yahoo I think actually charges you if you want OUTLOOK Integration -- so that's out. GMAIL seems fine by me and also integrates perfectly on a smart phone as well.

    Cheers
