Microsoft trying to fix post-Patch Tuesday OpenType rendering problem

    Posted: 19 Dec 2012
Microsoft is working on a fix for a problem with one of this month's Patch Tuesday updates, which saw certain OpenType fonts made unreadable in PowerPoint and other applications.

The update in question was designed to fix a remote code execution vulnerability that could have affected people visiting pages with embedded TrueType or OpenType fonts. It seems to have fixed that problem, but caused another.

One complaint on a Microsoft forum stated that Quark Xpress and Coreldraw on Windows 7 and XP had become unable to render OpenType characters larger than 15pt.

Just wondering if this is the issue? My wife wrote a letter at work on MS Word 2007. Sent it home to her XP PC with Outlook 2010 fully updated and patched. She opened the letter in Word 2003 with the conversion and when we print it numerous letters are missing. They are visible on the screen but do not appear on the print out. Makes for interesting nonsense reading.

Could be...You can also update some of those TrueType fonts with this Microsoft Package: Post #114 if you haven't already done it.

This is why you should NEVER leave automatic updates on automatic.
