Interesting, because I use build 7600, Ultimate 64-bit with 4GB of RAM installed, and I noticed a considerable increase in performance with a 2GB SD card used as a ReadyBoost paging file.

when I used a usb ram stick for readyboost it did help a bit but at the end of day I brought some extra ram and realised there is no subsititute.

What was new to me is the 128 bit encryption. Here is another overhead that has to be accounted for - especially with slow CPUs.
I came to the conclusion that in most cases RB is probably a placebo.
