More Than 3 Out of 4 Enthusiasts Reject Windows 8

...or refurbished. That's most of the 7 PC's on the Best Buy website I've seen.

MS needs to give Upgrade rights to Win7 for all consumers who got the Win8 phone app on their new PC's. They can hand them out in the returns line, or retailers would probably install them overnight.

Put Win7 back on all Desktops and PC's. Give it a SP2 with explorer improvements but no ugly.

Leave Win8 on touchscreen devices, only an option for touchscreen laptops/desktops. Sell it for its advantage with Live Tiles which got lost in the ruin.

Indeed very true and unbiased.

Windows 8 interface reminds me of Windows 3.1 .

And the new incorporated start menu in 8.1 preview is nothing but a right click connect menu one needs to be a sniper to aim Moses at the entries of the context menu at such an awkward place.

Also the interface looks are like when one would get when windows 95 or 98 after getting that vxd error whter the graphic would just be white and grey.


I have never been able to use it for more then he weeks this junk.

Though I love few features of 8 like hyper v ..


Rest its gui is useless in desktops.

Infact I use xp most of the time as its simple clutter free. Everything is at few clicks away. And i use the old office 2003. In me office one has to wade through alot of menus and tabs and screens to get the needed features.


Do It seems that Microsoft is not listening to it users. And that is showing is consequence.. Microsoft is nowadays getting to arrogant..

To most of those who don't like the ribbon on office 2017/2010/2013 just press CTRL+F1 to remove most of it --then it's just about like Office 2003 -- but better as you can customize what appears on the toolbar.

Windows 8.1 launches straight to desktop if you so desire. Windows 8 type GUI doesn't really need to be seen then if you don't want it to.

I personally like the ribbon. I had no trouble adapting to it.

My letter in today's New York Times:

Many still don't understand what a disaster WIndows 8 is with consumers. Even the business world wouldn't buy into a scare campaign on BIOS infections and is migrating off XP almost entirely into Windows 7, the first perfect OS and ultimate realization of the Desktop Experience responsible for most productive work that drives the world economy. Instead there's still an outlandish belief that what's happening is related to an inevitable death of the desktop instead of self-fulfilling prophecy.

MS over-reacted to Ipad and abandoned the critical Start menu in place a Wall of giant playskool-type buttons which are unintuitive on the desktop and interrupt work more than assist it. They've refused to budge to demands to return the Start menu because they've redesigned their whole business plan a la Apple to rent apps (and eventually the OS) off this Ipad-type start screen that slams down on work like a guillotine. Just this one change from a typical unobtrusive pop-up Start menu to the Wall of Buttons has spelled disaster. Consumers and businesses alike don't want it, MS won't change it. There is a stand-off that shows the opposite approach from a stubborn corporation to similar disasters with New Coke and the Tylenol scare.

Provide Upgrade rights to Win7 to consumers stuck with Win8 they don't want, then a worthy successor to Win7.

Any wagers on how long I'll keep my MVP?

TBH I feel guilty that I held my tongue at three Global MVP Summits along with everyone else who were cowed into whispers by declarations that no feedback was wanted on Win8. Had they listened to us they would have known these things a year or more ago. MS Community MVP's had been assured that Blue would resolve all the complaints they were hearing.

Remember Mr. Gates hand picked Ballmer. For Microsoft to remain successful Microsoft needs to get a talented person from outside the company. Microsoft needs someone who will challenge the way the company is run and bring in a fresh viewpoint.
