More Than 3 Out of 4 Enthusiasts Reject Windows 8

OK I've copped a bit of a battering here. Just accept my views as a personal perspective. Around 2 years ago restore points let me down on a number of occasions and a system image restore was the rescue. I find system imaging and system restore efficient and reliable so I never bother with restore points. However, if you have confidence in restore points as the first line of defence then of course use them.
In terms of system restore "cleans out crap". This is a very unscientific comment but something I feel happens.

I suppose some might want to save space on a small ssd.
Shadow copies are very useful. I almost never use system restore, prefer to do it myself from the shadow copy.

No battering from me. I've also had problems with system restore in the past and much prefer imaging, although I prefer using Macrium Reflect.

How is that done exactly, Si?

Very interesting. Like Greg I will also like to know how this is done. Sound like a great idea.

(2) System Restore points should be disabled when using an SSD.
Say's who?
With or without an SSD in use here I never have any need to disable that service. It can bail you out of a tight spot fast without the need for any full image restoration, repair or clean install.
For minor reversals all of your files and programs will remain intact while a new program or bad install of an update is cleared in just a few minutes time. The practicality of having the SR feature available is one good reason for reserving some drive space for points!

You can use this from within windows
System Restore Explorer.zip
Or this from pe
NT6REPAIRX64.zip
Easier to fish things out from pe if you have some kind of explorer gui in there.

OK I see the familar System Restore GUI but with the ability to mount or unmount the image. How do you apply it, and from boot?
-
Mount your chosen restore pt and copy out anything you like,. Copy and paste.
If you want files that are in use, you have to do it from pe - using the nt6repair program to mount the shadow copies.
You will want an explorer thing in pe already to make it easier, which I assume you have. if not you can use explorer++

Oh, I thought it was a preferred method of yours to apply System Restore as an image.
