About bloody time too......!
Colin, I've done some pretty extensive research on this. Those companies are headquartered in California. Just by looking at the map, they have to traverse some pretty rough territory just to get their products to your country.
Not to mention you guys are upside down from the rest of the world. When it's summer here it's winter for you. You wear bathing suits for Christmas. You have a funny looking dollar. Youse guys don't talk the good English like us 'Murikins. And you really wanna complain about why you get charged more???
I'm having a math problem. 10% higher cost in labor so therefor a 50%, 60% higher cost on products sold. I can understand shipping cost from the U.S.A. but most of the hardware comes from some where else on the Pacific rim. Australia is at the bottom of the globe that has to add some cost. It's so far away it took 3 min. for the page to download. No where did it state the difference in taxes or tariffs that the government has placed on imports. That could be a major difference in cost. I hope to see the math and reasoning in more detail when it is published. Just curious.
Question: Does downloads one pays for cost more? If so it has to be taxes or tariffs and exchange rate. Lets not leave this out;(corporate greed).
Adobe charges much higher price in the UK than the US too even allowing for differing tax rates.
Actually as the crow flies the Aussies are closer to the source of a large portion of the hardware manufacturers. Must be taxes, tariffs, money exchanges etc.
Colin I have heard this from my mate in Tamworth, he always has to cry every year when he visits in what we laughingly call a "British Summer". I take him past computer shops and show him online prices, it's revenge for him leaving the UK some 45 years ago. He had to do it whilst I was in the Army, had no one to get him close to the Sheilas anymore so kidnapped a Brit girl, took her to Oz and married her, she must have been very drunk.
Seriously, I don't think these US companies have really understood that the very independent Australian judiciary may take a very hard line on this. Our justice system is stuffed with oldpharts who quite often toe the line when it comes to massively profitable organisations, don't think that will happen in Oz.
