Intel: 'Packet of death' problem 'isolated to a specific manufacturer'

Intel has released a statement claiming that the 'packet of death' problem affecting its 82574L Ethernet controller is not a design problem but instead a problem confined to hardware manufactured by a single -- but as yet unnamed -- manufacturer.

Thank you Brink and HammerHead. A lot of good information. Most of it way over my head. They surly know what country this problem comes from. I have my thoughts on that. To get that information you would probable have to be buddies with N.S.A, N.S.C., D.H.S, CIA and the State Department. What a nice way to sneak into government and industry computers. I don't believe it was designed to mess up Billy and Jane's Facebook account.

Hi, I can't enable wake on lan on my computer. First I tried with an on board LAN cart then I added external cart - Intel(R) PRO/1000 GT. In the device manager I checked "Allow this device to wake up the computer" and "Only allow a magic packed to wake up the computer" for the network adapter....
