in all my years of computing it always seems to be that "What's the Best browser" question seems to be one of the silliest, and pointless question I've ever seen on Forums.

A Browser is just that it's basically just a simple File Browser and renderer for the Internet -- you don't see the same questions asked on what's the best "File Browser" to replace Windows explorer -- yet if you paste the Internet url in bog standard windows explorer it will display the URL.

It really is up to the OS IMO to provide all the security requirements due to browsers executing bits of code and perhaps the rendering itself should be removed from the browser and done by kernel modules.

However a lot of the arguments regarding speed etc are really irrelevant since things like response time are usually dependent on your OWN IP's speed, the number of users accessing the target site and the speed / efficiency of the target site's users. The hardware you are running on also will play a part especially when decoding multi-media codecs or displaying large photo images.

With ultra fast broadband being more and more available and decent fast hardware I doubt whether there is much difference in ANY of these browsers and your choice will probably be based on the Interface (or GUI) it presents to YOU rather than ant properties of the browser itself -- always assuming the browser doesn't crash your system in the first place.

Any program that requires loads of "Addons" to get it to work as a file renderer IMO isn't worth installing -- these addons invariably make configuration (or setup) and updating mpre complicated and of course "addons" can always be charged for at a later date.


Currently the security in W7 doesn't work like W8 so security implementation in the browser currently is required - but whatever people say about W8 the security system is actually based in the OS and is far more robust than W7 and can therefor catch what a browser might miss. This allows complete integration between the File explorer and the browser. In fact the next update of W8 is unlikely to have a separate distinction between the File and Internet explorer -- the name change from Windows explorer to File explorer already suggests that this change is likely to occur fairly soon.

My choice (Firefox) is not on the list but I would choose IE 10. I tend not to use any Google products.
