Windows 7 boots slower than Vista, says study.

Until Windows 7 is officially released and is into it's first service pack at least, we can't claim that it's slower than X.

Vista was slow when it was first released and improves after it's service packs and I'm sure Windows 7 will be the same.

Yes, and... there is a point when you can actually use the o/s - ( however flawed the Iolo study may have been ) , you cannot use the o/s at the login screen , or even immediately you see the desktop.

How hard would it be to make an o/s that gets to the login screen in a few seconds and then takes another minute to be usable?

That would count as unbelievably fast using the test this article suggests.

MS is well aware of the public perception - that is precisely why there are graphics during the boot process - it seems faster than watching a blank screen.

That is also why the desktop appears before the o/s is fully usable.


The fact is - it depends on your system. Vista boots faster on mine - always has , with sp1, a clean install with sp2, vs clean install of all the different builds of 7 I tried over the past year or so.

You might have a different result. Particularly if you are using a net book.

Hardly surprising. That is what 7 was meant to do. To bring the Vista/NT6 experience to lower spec machines.

Vista was not built with those in mind. On the kind of equipment Vista was intended for - you may see no difference in speed or responsivenes between the two.
