AMD breaks from Windows exclusivity, adopts Android and Chrome OS

    Posted: 07 Jun 2013
After years of Windows OS exclusivity, Advanced Micro Devices is opening the door to design chips to run Google's Android and Chrome OS in PCs and tablets.

AMD is expanding OS options as it designs chips based on x86 and ARM architecture, which run multiple OSes, said Lisa Su, senior vice president and general manager of global business units at AMD, in an interview at the Computex trade show in Taiwan.

I'd be quite surprised if AMD hadn't been investigating other avenues anyway.

Now with/if M$ pulling away from the "IBM compatible pc" market, then there may be an upheaval with a lot of companies involved it this market.

I seen this coming a long time ago with them being involved in PS4 and all the other stuff they've been creating I was hoping they would move on with something else instead of battling Intel all the time

They have good products for the less expensive buyer I think this was a bold and smart move which will make there market share rise imagine how you can overclock a Droid phone with out having to worry about voiding warranty that is pretty freakin sweet to me

They recently started using Atom processors which are weak anyway
Most tablets are not even 2 Ghz yet most are like 1-5 to 1.7 Ghz if that and those are the real good one's

Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 is supposed to show off the new Intel Atom which I think in this area AMD will kill

There APU's are just too strong for Intel to deal with that is a real win for AMD there on the Mobile market

If anything, It does make it interesting that there's so many in the field.

With so many different company's "takes" on the idea, there maybe some new innovations.

As long the largest"Intel" doesn't muscle the rest of the competition out.
