LEAKED: German Government Warns Key Entities Not To Use Windows 8

"According to leaked internal documents from the German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) that Die Zeit obtained, IT experts figured out that Windows 8, the touch-screen enabled, super-duper, but sales-challenged Microsoft operating system is outright dangerous for data security. It allows Microsoft to control the computer remotely through a built-in backdoor. Keys to that backdoor are likely accessible to the NSA – and in an unintended ironic twist, perhaps even to the Chinese."

"...Windows 8 with TPM 2.0 is “already” no longer usable. But Windows 7 can “be operated safely until 2020.” After that other solutions would have to be found for the IT systems of the Administration."

Windows 8 with TPM 2.0 is “already” no longer usable. But Windows 7 can “be operated safely until 2020.” After that other solutions would have to be found for the IT systems of the Administration.

Instead, hardware manufactures could build machines with the chips deactivated, Microsoft said. If you want to have control over your computer, that’s what you’d have to buy. Another option would be to switch to Linux machines, something that the city government of Munich has started

I have always thought the the Chinese Government would install something like this in all the hardware they make thinking no one would be the wiser. This would include governments around the world getting new hardware. New hardware new open back door.

I don't think anyone should be surprised that companies as well as governments can and do spy on people. Just in the past few years: Google Street View cars collecting data; the NSA; Verizon, BT, and Vodafone reportedly assisting UK's massive Tempora spying effort; the IRS; and the list goes on.
