Go SEVEN.
This illustrates the absolute benefits of windows 7 for me. One of the biggest things for me and my employees is time wasted on start up and shut down of mobile laptops. Laptops are all Toshiba Satellite A200's, with all crapware removed. All with 2 gb ram, only additional softwares virtual clone drive, driver max, adobe, avast antivirus, ms office suite. vista is vista home premium. windows 7 is beta 1 x86. times vary by +10 seconds on vista units, +2 seconds on windows 7 installs. times averaged over three complete startup/shutdown trials. wireless connection shut down manually prior to system shutdown, no engineering diagnostics software loaded requiring real time connection running at shutdown.
vista
system start to login 1 min 10 seconds
time to desktop (usable) 2 min 10 seconds
time to shutdown, wireless off 4 min 45 seconds
windows 7 beta
system start to login 0 min 30 seconds
time to desktop (usable) 0 min 55 seconds
time to shutdown, wireless off 0 min 17 seconds
now, multiply those time savings by myself, another engineer, and two techs averaging seven onsite calls per day, say 60 percient requiring some laptop access....significant productivity gains for me.
