I suppose you can also use them as the plane is spiraling to the ground out of control..
Just for the twitter and Facebook junkies,,,, so they'll be in touch, too the very end.
SourceThe Federal Aviation Administration today found that personal electronic devices (PEDs) - like your smartphone or tablet - will not interfere with a plane's functionality and can be used during takeoff and landing, pending a review of each airline's fleet.
Your gadgets must be in airplane mode, but going forward, you will be able to continue reading an e-book, playing Angry Birds, or watching a movie as the plane taxis, takes off, starts its initial descent, and arrives at your destination.

About time they allow it! Let the games play on...
Hi there
Just so long as they don't allow people to make and receive mobile calls from their seats -- Imagine being stuck next to some bozo yabbering on his / her mobile the whole time while on a 10 hr flight from Manchester UK to L.A or even worse on a flight to SYDNEY.
At least on a train you can walk around and there are some designated "Quiet zones" - at least on the better European lines -- I think even the UK is introducing these on some of the Inter City lines too - and there are ways of supressing the signal too as any student of basic physics will know. On a Plane any attempt to do that would be highly illegal and "The Boys in Blue" would ensure you made a swift passage through Immigration to spend some time as a "Guest" of the State / Country you land in. !!
The idea is good in principle - especially when there is a delay in taking off / landing due to heavy traffic / missed slots etc -- nothing worse than sitting in a plane for 60 mins or so waiting to take off and not even being allowed to use an Ipod (or equivalent).
Cheers

I knew that all thsi FAA stuff is a lie.
I remeber back then when cellphones were outlawed inhospitals because they allegedly influenced pacemakers and other devices. teh funny thing was, no on ee ver did next to me whne i made aphone call and the doctors all were allowed to have cellphones to be reachable.
A city once outlawed cellphone use on busses since they claimed the ABS would be influenced. Odd that this city was the only entity believing so and every other bus and car had cellphone use without problems.
And if cellphones had ever posed a threat ot airplanes, many woudl have crashed already. Do you think among 150 passengers, not at least one had forgotten to tun off the phone, or checked it in being on?
