Microsoft revises privacy policy in wake of Hotmail search case | Microsoft - CNET News

Microsoft promised to toughen policies regarding the company's potential reading of Hotmail users' emails, after an outcry over Microsoft searching a user's Hotmail account to discover the identity of someone now charged with stealing company secrets.
John Frank, Microsoft's deputy general counsel, said that in the future, the company would meet a more rigorous standard before peeking into a non-employee's Hotmail account.

Wait, I thought only Google was evil? Remember when I told people that its not just Google looking and scanning your email? They all do it. It does not matter what provider you have. Again, remember there is no such thing as security. Even though this was a unusual circumstance, it still happened.

I thought a court order was needed to allow third party's access to Gmail.

The spying people always talk about with gmail is their "AD" scanning tech that scans your email for content and then offers you ads based on that. And its a joke that a court order is needed. When it comes to technology lots of things can be done with almost no evidence.

I guess what he means is that the email providers are the ones spying on your stuff, not third parties, so, taking in mind the TOS of every of them, they can basically spy whatever you do on your email inbox or not...
