I have decided not to participate these fights anymore, it's pointless to argue about Windows 8 with people who have decided not to use it and base their opinion in what they have heard and think of it instead of facts and own experience, but I just want to say this:

I am a quite experienced Windows and PC user, both in my private life and professionally. I have used Windows 8, now 8.1 as my main OS in all laptops and desktops I have since before it was officially published, would never go back to Seven which I only run on virtual machines nowadays. I have never had or used nor will I in a foreseen future get a touch display or device, I am using this magnificent OS on normal computers controlling them with mouse and keyboard.

What gives you right to call me and other windows 8 users "poke and go crowd"?

The desktop is the same than Windows 7 desktop, apart of different start Menu and really many times more functional File Explorer. Everything that runs in Windows 7 runs on my machines. Everything can be done with mouse and keyboard, in fact the new way to use Windows 8 with them is just amazing.

Please stop calling me and other Windows 8 enthusiast names, especially when you do not have extensive experience about using Windows 8.

I respect your opinion. :)

They are a lot of things windows 8 does right, like the improved task manager (my fav thing), the improved usb 3.0 native support, ssd support, the improved security and faster boot times. etc.

People who like windows 8 are not poke and go people, people can like what they like. Some people love 8, and that's great. The average public does not though. I am one of them.

But for users like me who have tried it and honestly used it for several months and still do not like it, that says something. My opinion. For windows 8, a majority of people do not like it.

Yes quite a few people hate it without actually using it, but that happens.

To me it still takes longer to do simple tasks. Don't get me wrong, they have made tremendous improvements. Shutdown has now improved with an easy button right on the start screen so that has helped. As well as easy right click in the bottom right and shut down also listing more advanced commands.

But windows 8 is not made for average users. It is not made for power users. It is a ugly morph of both.

Windows 8 needs to be where it belongs-on a tablet. Windows 8 needs to decide on it's identity. It is trying to hard to meet both needs, when it should develop into 2 different operating systems. Windows 8 should be re-named windows mobile or something, and then have windows 9 be the full desktop/laptop experience.

I don't need every app taking up my entire screen. I want to multitask. Yes you can snap apps, yes you can resize. But everything is ridiculous giant and cumbersome. It speaks volumes that it has such as low market-share as it does.

Ether way you look at it, while there are a lot of things I like about windows 8, There is a lot more I do not like.

A lot of features are removed in windows 8 that I use. Previous versions is a perfect example. It is a fantastic tool and is gone and replaced with the dumber file history. That requires a external hard drive hooked up at all times to restore previous versions of files. What good is that? Why make it harder to do something?


It is not enough to upgrade for me as it makes it more frustrating to use my pc, even though I learned the "new way" of doing things.

I do like it on tablets though, played around with it for awhile on a asus and lenovo tablet. It is very cool to have the whole windows experience in a tablet. And the surface is not bad at all. The price is but that is a different topic.

I am unsubscribing this thread after posting this, for as I said these arguments are IMO pointless.

Total BS. Windows 8 is just as much a PC OS than Seven, only difference being it has added functionality.

The stupidest BS argument I have ever heard of. If you do not like Store Apps and how they behave, you do not have to use nor see them ever again. The same if you do not like the Start Screen, boot to desktop and never use Start Screen again. Multitask with desktop apps exactly as you do with Windows Seven.

Again BS. File history does not require an external HDD. For example I am using a separate partition in my system disk for it.

Kari, your telling me you can restore previous versions of files without a external harddrive or backup? You stated you have another partition set up. That is what I am saying right there.

In windows 7 you can restore files by right clicking and going to restore previous versions. Simple.
No external hard drive or internal backup needed. It is done through restore points nativly inside windows. (Yes you can download shadow copy into windows 8 and manually extract data.)


True I do not need to use store apps, you are right. But isn't the point of windows 8 to get me to want to use apps? To want me using their store? I just think there needs to be options on installation if one wants these features. Sure I can configure everything so I do not need to see Metro again. But for people who have windows 7 already, why would we upgrade to something I have to configure a lot more to get it to work the way I expect it to?

My understanding that most people use Windows 8 just like the way Microsoft advertises it's use. Touch screen.

Of course I understand their are users like Kari that have the knowledge and desire to make it work the way they want it to but Kari you are many pay grades above the average user that Microsoft's is reaching out for.
Every commercial I see for Windows 8 is touch screen. No mouse or keyboard.
That indicates to me Microsoft is reaching for the poke and go people.

I can't imagine anybody considering someone with the knowledge of a Kari and many other members here on this forum as average users that fit the commercials put out by Microsoft for Windows 8.

The only finger I pointed at in my post #2 was Microsoft and the customers they advertise to. Therefore the poke and go crowd.

My post #2 was not in any way shape or form pointing at any member on this forum.
