Assume the development cycle to be about 3 years. That includes the planning phase of which they probably have already done some.

I wouldn't mind a beta sometime next year.

Though I have a feeling if they do hold another public beta, we wont see it until late 2011 or early 2012.

They have to keep their hordes of staff busy somehow. And in 2012, they want to make money too.

Same here, but I wonder how many XP applications will work with Win8, if any.

I'm content with Windows 7 for now, but I'm very happy with the new direction Microsoft is taking. Windows 7 is a vast improvement over Windows Vista and the $65 I spent on the upgrade (Home Premium 50% off deal) was the best $65 I've spent on tech-related products for a long time.

The new taskbar is great for productivity. It took a while to get used to but now I have all the programs I use frequently pinned down there and I have a clean desktop with no icons. It's a great OS, I wonder what Windows 8 will bring?

Yeah, I know lol. I loved XP, but I love 7 even more. If XP apps don't work, then I think it's time to move on. The only XP app I have that doesn't work is PowerDVD XP lol. But since Media Player 12 plays DVDs there's no issue for me.
