Out of all the botched updates listed, I only have KB2976897 installed and rebooted fine. Running Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1. Should I be concerned with KB2976897 and uninstall it?
If you're not having any problems I think you'll be fine with the update. I'm also one who wasn't affected by the bad patch. It seems like only certain machines are affected by it. I'd say keep the update.
It's people who have a lot of Adobe fonts as shortcuts installed.

Is this documented anywhere, do you have link(s) confirming this is the issue ?

I found this thread in microsoft help (google search): Blue screen (stop 0x50) after applying update KB2982791 to Windows 7 home premium 64 bit. According to one user there it did cause the BSOD. One of many reasons I guess.

Wednesday my grandson brought his laptop to me, Win 7 would not start and went to ' startup repair' program. However no repair worked. When I tried to go to a restore point, the only one there appeared to be one automatically done before last update. The restore point did not repair his machine.
I'm afraid I have finished driving a stake into its heart by some of the repair disks I have laying around and ran on his machine, trying to restore partitions, etc. I think it will take a full reinstall of Win 7. Of course, no, he does not have (never had) a Win 7 disk. SOL, riight?
Here is the kicker. This morning when I restarted all the machines in my 'command central' my Lenovo laptop is dead in exactly the same way. Startup repair does not work and cannot find a restore point except one from just a couple days ago, when I shut down and all the (17 I think) were done. So his laptop is bricked and so is mine.
I am not a conspiracy theorist, but suppose we both took this occasion to upgrade to Win 8? (Microsoft's current Vista failure OS) and a lot of others too, maybe that would boost MS's bottom line...Naw, the world's not filled with mega corporations that intentionally gig the little guy, right?
Well it affected Windows 8 too. But seems there are more Windows 7 PCs with the issues.

On the other hand, Windows Vista was a big step in the development to Windows 7.

    See Eliyas Yakub's post

there's more discussion of the font issue throughout the thread (hence the need to delete & recreate fntcache.dat)

No problem here either. Font issues are related to OpenType Fonts, .otf files, installed in non-standard font directories. This is visible in the registry because a path is included in the font name in the Data column.
Check manually in regedit or run this in a command prompt to see if you have any:

    reg query "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Fonts" | find ".otf"

If you remove | find ".otf" at the end you'll see all fonts.

The MS community thread is huge, here's a shorter article:

I think an Update had been putted today to fix the issues:

    - Win32k Elevation of Privilege Vulnerability - CVE-2014-0318
    - Font Double-Fetch Vulnerability - CVE-2014-1819
    - Windows Kernel Pool Allocation Vulnerability - CVE-2014-4064

Microsoft Security Bulletin MS14-045 - Important
Vulnerabilities in Kernel-Mode Drivers Could Allow Elevation of Privilege (2984615)

    Published: August 12, 2014 | Updated: August 15, 2014 | Version: 2.0

    Download Center (Date Published: 8/26/2014):

x64: Download Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2993651) from Official Microsoft Download Center
x32: Download Security Update for Windows 7 (KB2993651) from Official Microsoft Download Center

The article ID KB2993651 Security Bulletin is still not available at this time of the day.

    Note:
Looks this is a Three-in-One Security Update for all the mentioned article IDs. Whereas one could wait the Security Update through the automated Windows Update.

    Hi there

I must be doing something totally wrong - as I often see issues regarding Ms updates and BSOD's and I can't say I've ever had a problem with the standard Ms updates whether on W7 or W8. I suspect that people who might have problems have installed various 3rd party programs like Registry cleaners, driver detection software, uninstallers such as Revo, or other "Speed up system" type of stuff.

The latest updates work for me just fine.

    Cheers

Well, the benefit of the doubt made me uninstall all the previous "offending" updates offered August 12, 2014 patch Tuesday.

I lived well without them and now, today i installed fine that one...let's see further in the day what could happen!

    Edit:
This one is still not offered and my files remains untouched (part of the ones i've uninstalled back then):
