Windows 7 PC Sales Ended on Friday 31 October 2014

    Posted: 30 Oct 2014
This week marks another important milestone for Windows 7, which continues to be Microsoft’s number one operating system, as the Redmond-based software giant is ending sales of PCs running it on October 31.
After Friday, the company will no longer provide partners, OEMs, and manufacturers with Windows 7 licenses to install them on new PCs, so all companies would instead have to switch to a newer operating system for their computers.

October 31 is the end of sales for PCs running Windows 7 Home Basic, Windows 7 Home Premium and Windows 7 Ultimate, but Windows 7 Professional will continue to be available for OEMs.

At this point, Windows 7 Professional still doesn’t have a deadline for end of retail sales, but Microsoft is very likely to announce one soon, as it hopes to put its modern operating systems in the spotlight.

Manufacturers and vendors that still have Win 7 machines will still be able to sell them after Friday until existing stocks are depleted. The same is true for vendors selling OEM licenses. New Win 7 Professional licenses will still be available to OEMs for an unspecified amount of time.

This isn't really news; M$ announced this years ago.

Microsoft still doesn't have a better replacement for win-7,
    Win-10 :/
Nothing more than 8.1 with a start menu stuck with bing search default which means you type anything in the search box and hit the enter key and boom your on a bing search page
8.1 and Start8 is better but I suppose 10 and Start10 will be available

I really don't believe windows gets the fundamentals of a desktop anymore and I don't get the mobile stuff so I'm stuck with what works best for me win-7

What I've seen of Win 10 so far has been a great improvement over Win 8.x and a slight improvement over Win 7. However, the improvement isn't enough to convince me to switch from Win 7...yet; it's still in the testing stages and a lot can change between now and when it is RTM.

If MS were smart, they'd still allow sales of W7 until W10 is released.
I'm surprised that the OEMs aren't jumping up and down, screaming and shouting.

Maybe MS are hoping people will just put up with the W8 series.
I suspect that people won't upgrade or they will swap to something else (e.g. Apple).

The initial beta (b9841) was really good.
The update (b9860) broke the best feature of b9841 (IMO).
    Not a good sign.

Things could get a lot worse between now and the final release.

They still need to include a "Purge All Apps" tool (I suspect they won't though).

Windows 8 is a pet peeve of mine and i was hoping that 10 would be better. I downloaded an ISO but haven't yet had the time to install it on a VM.

Microsoft will never say anything negative about it's operating system. Microsoft will just guide us the new and improved of what ever they have.

Windows 8's boat didn't float in the consumers pond. Windows 7 owns the pond. Now Microsoft wants us to buy another boat and get out of the Windows 7 boat.
    Presto Windows 10.

Microsoft need a operating system to sell (W-10) not a operating system to give free updates to (W-7).
That is the old formula of 2+2=$

I found this formula in a cave wrote on the wall with counterfeit Chinese lipstick.
    In a country called Bingmyass.

As much as I despise 8 at the time 7 came out i was going to skip it and wait for the next version but I couldn't pass the pre-order sale. 8 has been a failure for M$. Can you blame them for wanting to move past it?

Their are many that like W-8. Their just isn't enough of them to suite Microsoft's needs for sales.

Microsoft's yard stick to measure success is sales.
    Just like every other company.
