Advance Windows Update Notification for November 10th 2014
-
Downloading 13 updates now. I don't have MS Office installed. I see an schannel.dll gets downloaded. I wonder if that's anything to do with the latest round of SSL vulnerabilities.
Got 13 of them too...
8 security related,
2 for .net framework,
1 IE Cumulative Update,
1 MSRT,
1 Update (recommended).
Schannel.dll is patched amongst others as "ncrypt, certcli, kerberos, adtschema...The article IDs are not yet available.
Looks a big work had been done this month to fix issues over SSL and encryption.
Let's wait Article IDs surface within the next two hours...might some hidden features in registry.

I had 14 Windows updates this morning, 73mb total, plus 1 MSE update. All installed trouble free & required one restart.
I use Office 2013 so updates for that come through separately & are not shown in the usual Windows Updates process.
I always install updates automatically & over the last 6 years I have only ever had one minor problem.

I just did my other computer and all went well and quick.
I'm doing a MRT scan on the other computer and it's got a load of around 60% on the cpu. I varies a little as it goes along. It found nothing which is what I expected. I keep my system clean and scan often.
I also use the Disk Cleanup Extended after Windows updates.

I've updated my triple boot test box and no problems here (so far).
2 Win 7 OSs with 20 Updates, and Win 8.1.1 with 17 updates.
To me it seemed they installed faster than usual for the number of updates :)

Just to be clear KB3008627 is Optional
Otherwise all others are loaded and doing fine
On the above Optional KB... the More information link goes no where and so does the update until it explains what the update is supposed to address
I'm in the middle of mine, so far, so good.
Before I went any further I wanted to check on kb3008627, its at the bottom of the list where it says;8627 has a prerequisite condition attached to it:I'm going back to updating.......

Spy The Spy
Callender what is Spy the Spy?
I'm now booted in W-10 check for updates. None found except Defender.
Updates of W-7 to around 15 minutes with 3.0 DSL.
Spy The Spy is software that monitors any folders that you specify for the creation of new executables (any extension) and there's the option to quarantine them so it's more suited to users who like to know if an executable is created. If something gets created unexpectedly then it's time to investigate. The only problem is that it won't run on start up so I use a batch file in my startup folder to launch it on boot. The other problem is - when downloading or installing windows updates multiple warning pop up but I can live with that once per month.

The last screenshot shows the way it's set up on my machine but you can set it to watch any locations and remove the default settings if needed.

Thanks for the information Chris.

I would imagine most users here might favor not using automatic updates.
Including this old lady. I have my updates set to notify my of them but not to download and install them until I say so. Then, I wait until Saturday to download and install them. By then, any problems will have been reported and, so far, M$ has already pulled any offending updates. Also, I make weekly images of my boot drive every Friday after running my weekly full AV/malware scans so I already have a fresh image before I download and install any updates.

Windows' Action Center always likes to throw the pennant at me to remind me that I should change my style of updating.
I could shut it off, but I leave it on in case something else pops up.
btw. 13 Updates no problems.

I occasionally get the pennant, too, but I just look at the message then ignore it. I usually goes away.
My update notification just popped up a few minutes ago. I have 21 important updates (I also have M$ Office).
