MY gripe was they raised their subsription renewal prices like crazy! absolute greed! I just get a rebate each year and buy it new, the subscrition renewal is a huge ripoff...

Actually with the new nortons, they are quite good. Symantic has rebuilt the whole suite all over and did not use the same base as norton 2008. norton 2009 has recieved great reviews from these sites:

Top Internet Security Suites: Paying for Protection - PC World
The Best Security Suites for 2009 - Norton Internet Security 2009 - At A Glance - Reviews by PC Magazine
Norton Internet Security 2009 Internet security and firewall reviews - CNET Reviews

It has even gotton great reviews from consumers:
    [ame=http://www.amazon.com/Norton-Internet-Security-2009-1User/dp/B001E0RZ3U]Amazon.com: Norton Internet Security 2009 1User/3Pc: Software[/ame]

    compared to 2008:
[ame=http://www.amazon.com/Norton-Internet-Security-Users-VERSION/dp/B000T9LUBU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=software&qid=1245963522&sr=1-1]Amazon.com: Norton Internet Security 2008 up to 3 Users [OLD VERSION]: Software[/ame]

I am using norton internet security( the best version) and it only uses 6 - 7 mb of ram.
ps the bad part is the antispam

Im a long time Symantec/Norton user, and I must say they have gotten better and better over the years, in my opinion.

To the people complaining about resource hog, blah blah blah, get a better freakin pc... I dont have a top of the line pc, and have NEVER felt held back when using one of their products.

Dont knock it until you have tried it recently. It may have been crap back in the day, but it has not been crap within the last couple of years. And instead of asking for sources, why dont you try a newer Symantec/Norton product out for yourself instead of taking someone elses word for it, or your past experiences into consideration. Things change, some get better, some get worse, in my opinion Symantec/Norton has gotten better.

I really don't think NU will be of much use. There are countless Free System Optimizers such as Advanced SystemCare Free, CCleaner and much more. NU will just provide the same features but you have to pay money for it? I don't think I am going to try it out.

    Same. Also this,

Download and run the Norton Removal Tool

and even then I would probably still re-install Windows just to make sure that it is totally gone. That and they had to come up with this,

User Access Control - Vista User Account Control - UAC | Norton Labs

instead of writing their software to work properly with Vista and UAC.

I used NU long ago, I have also tested the newest versions and was very impressed with how little it put into my computer. I don't use it since I don't believe in paying a fee to use something I payed for already. If Windows charged a sub. fee after the first year of use OS X would be the top OS. With all the free/pay once software that works well why does Symantec still have Sub fees?
