    Microsoft will surprise in 2015

    Posted: 29 Dec 2014
As the company seeks new ways to grow, it is likely to explore things once unthinkable for it.

You may have noticed that I take a rather cynical view of Microsoft. But I think I am able to recognize when it does good things. As a matter of fact, I think the company made some smart moves in 2014, and it’s going to benefit from them in 2015.

One of those smart moves was to try to move beyond the fiasco that was Windows 8. Yes, Microsoft took its own sweet time in realizing just what a moronic blunder Windows 8.x’s Metro was, but it now is in the process of shoving that awkward interface into the background with Windows 10 (now in beta), bringing back the kind of windows, icon, menu and pointer (WIMP) interface that desktop users prefer.

True, the company needs to do much better in the quality assurance (QA) area. The blunders Microsoft has been making in Windows 10 are sort of understandable (it’s still beta, after all). I still don’t understand, though, how a change to Internet Explorer 11 can foul up an operating system update if, and only if, you have Office installed. No, what I find of much greater concern is an overall pattern of sloppy coding. An Exchange update that knocks out Outlook? Windows 7 patches that block other security patches? If Microsoft doesn’t make QA job number one on the desktop in 2015, Windows 10 may yet prove a flop.

It just may be, however, that Microsoft wouldn’t be that worried if Windows 10 didn’t take off.

    I personally don't see anything worth replacing 7 within 10TP :/
8... is toast though if cheap enough

I like this statement from the article.

That’s a big deal. What it means is that Microsoft 2015 will no longer be the company that Bill Gates made and Steve Ballmer almost ruined.
I think what Microsoft is doing is being more consumer orientated.
Make products the consumer wants and will pay for instead of what a few people at Microsoft want to cram down or up orifices.

I just saw a news article that M$ is going to replace IE with something new that resembles FireFox and Chrome. Heck, I use IE because I don't like FireFox and Chrome. That move alone would be enough for me to stick with Win 7 to the bitter end.

Microsoft building new browser as part of Windows 10 push

edit: Wow! I must be pretty good. I just mention a news article and the link automagically appeared.

(Actually, I suspect a certain alien planted it there. )

I personally love where MS is headed. I love Windows 8, personally feel it is a nice upgrade to Windows 7(once you get rid of the Metro), and Windows 10 so far has me ready to upgrade once again! Obviously Windows 7 is an amazing OS, and some people just don't want to change, just like a lot of people are still stuck on XP, but I personally love where MS is headed, and even though that might not be the popular opinion, my money will still go to MS once Windows 10 comes out, as I think it will be yet another step forward in the OS market.

Just one lowly guys opinion though :)

Just rumours, or MS is killing IE in favor or Spartan? I've heard that, but no news here so...

There are no pictures yet, and IE will NOT be replaced by Spartan

BTW, I stopped reading the article at "with Windows 10 (now in beta)"

The guy obviously has no idea what a beta is, cause 10 most certainly is NOT in beta.

I don't believe beta is all that far fetched :)

    I will be surprised ...

I will be surprised, if MS surprises me this year.

I'm expecting bungling, stuff ups and tomfoolery.
