i hope that the upgrade versions are cheaper. I will need 3 copies of the ultimate but not at $950. I am sure the final cost won't be so high that it kills all the excitement over windows 7.

i'd like to see those rumoured prices halved. cheaper os means greater percentage of legitimate installed os. we and most other shops require a legitimate copy of the os with service requests now.

for those whom may find themselves in a financial pinch, the time to get real friendly with a teacher for the grey teachers edition, is now.

Although I am an ardent supporter of MS Windows, I have often thought that they shoot themselves in the foot by their pricing policy. If that is what the US will be paying in us dollars, you must realise that the UK will be paying the same or more in british sterling. That makes a mockery of the exchange rate.

When people then turn to piracy as a means of getting the new technology because they cannot afford the market prices MS cries foul loudly.

I sincerely hope people don't need to refer to wikipedia for a definition....

They should sell just an OEM version of Ultimate for $99, Loose 5 cents on every copy they sell, but make it up in volume of number of copies sold!

The OEM had better be cheaper than that is all I have to say. 260 bucks is WAY too high of a price. I figure about $150 for OEM premium version but $100 like Vista would be a lot better. And they had better fix the lame favicon problems or i'll never buy Windows 7.

With the current worldwide financial cricis I don't see everyone rushing to buy W7 at those ridiculas prices.
If they want people to move from XP & Vista the prices need to come down a long way.
Best way to support pirating is to overprice the product, reduce the price to encourage people to buy legal versions.
While mine are legal, I have a friend who has 2 laptops and 3 desktops that each have a legal licensed copy, however because he reinstalls a lot on the desktops, he's fed up contacting $MS each time so has instead loaded pirated copies on the desktops so he doesn't have to go through the hassle.
