I just updated this old Intel Pent II 600mhz computer with a clean install of RC-7127 x86. It's slow, but works. That is the puter I'm posting from right now, on my network. I bought this at a thrift shop for $ 9.99

Running Win 7 on a old Dell inspiron 2200, Processor 1.4 Ghz, 512 MB ram.
its working fair, just a little bit slow
Running Win 7100 without any hitch for about a month now. The only annoyance I face is that minimised Yahoo Messenger keeps popping up frequently with any apparent reason.
Wonderful news for people using old hardwares.
What was PII updated to?
Doesn't x64 use more RAM than the x86 edition? I tried x64 Build 7127 with 512 MB of memory.
Got off to a rocky start; Windows warned me I was low on RAM. It even disabled the aero theme in favor of the aero basic theme. I tried opening paint and IE, however that pushed it to the limit; several errors about the inability to load more files to RAM.
But then, I had disabled any paging files before testing Windows 7 with 512 MB of RAM. Bet 99% of the time Windows 7 on 512 MB of RAM will use the paging files (virtual memory).
I'm going to test this on my gf's old Vaio with 512MB RAM next weekend. I am under the impression that Vista and Windows7 should be able to give better performance with a USB drive providing ReadyDrive/ReadyBoost.
I have a laptop running Windows 7 with 1 gb of RAM. I have the same laptop with 512 mb of RAM, so I swapped the drive over. It seems to run fine, a little slower than the one with 1 gb, but still fine. I will do further testing and report. My desktop with 1 gb runs much better, though it is newer, with a better video card.
I'm using windows 7 RC on a HP PAVILION a1120n Pentium 4 WITH 512mb and a INTEL 915v chipset ... It's too slow. Way slower than XP Home ever was. I'm switching back to XP today or tomorrow. The fan is also always running it seems. It's coming on even when I'm not doing anything. Applications and other things open up slow. IMO Windows 7 sucks for older PC's at this point, or any computer that has a chip that doesn't support WDDM/AERO.
