I try to remember that all computing devices have their place and uses.
None were designed to replace the other.
None will do all the things other computing devices do.
My 80 pound desktop is not very portable. That is what laptop, tablets and cell phones are for.

These devices are designed to fill the needs of certain markets. They were not designed to replace anything but rather to be included to ones computing devices.

Portable devices are desired and needed by many in todays computing world but that doesn't mean everybody who added portable devices to their computing Toolbox got rid of none portable devices.

I'm a desktop person at the present time. When the need or my desires change I will include portable devices and of course keep using my desktops also.

I will say though (just regarding the usefulness of tablets) that right now I'm typing this response on my girlfriend's iPad. She got one of those Bluetooth keyboards working. Man I tell ya, I am fully productive on this, at least with text and word processing features. All one needs now is to use Google or Zoho apps (like spreadsheets and word processors) and you're fully productive (as far as most might be concerned anyway).

Again, don't take this as me being a "Windows hater". This concerns me as much as anyone as to what this spells out for the future of Windows. As for me, I still need audio editing and production abilities, so the desktop and its processing speeds are a requirement. But I'm sure there are many that could settle for what this iPad and keyboard combination provides.

I had never had a desktop on my own,I just used in another place in an older time.My first computer was a laptop (portables called then) which had Windows 98,after which I upgraded until XP.
Then I bought a newer laptop with XP Home and upgraded for a little to Vista, which I deleted then because it gave lots of BSODs,as it does in my current computer.
After that,4 years ago,I bought a Toshiba laptop with Windows 7,which was perfect for me then.Unfortunately,it was stolen after 1.5 years.
Finally,I bought this one.I think I managed to install Server 2008 (which is unbelievable, because it shares the same kernel as Vista and our little culprit gives BSODs 0x0000001E (0xFFFFFFFC00000005,0xFFFFF800014B1CC7,0x0000000000000000,0xFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF) for SP1).SP2 gives different code at second parameter.
Anyway,I see that the best machines I had ever had are the two latest ones.

Let's see an essay about computers in schools:

In recent years computers have made their appearance in many classrooms.Students are not only taught how to operate computers but they also use them as learning tools for other subjects. While many people believe that they can eventually replace teachers, there are others who insist that the teacher can offer things that a piece of electronic equipment cannot.
Those in favour of computers say that computers provide students with the opportunity to progress at their own pace.Strong students do not have to be held up by the slower students and slower students can do extra practice in areas where they have difficulties. In addition,CD-ROM,multi-media and other technological innovations are exciting and can provide more information than any teacher can possibly give.
On the other hand, there are people who believe that learning takes place best in a social setting. They say that a computer cannot provide this.Furthermore, teachers can help students by giving encouragement and praise and they can help solve problems through discussions.
Finally, while computers do have a remarkable place in the classroom and can provide a great deal of information, others feel that the personal contact with a teacher cannot be replaced.

How does it seem? I had to translate everything!

Limited ... as in 37 government agencies. Sample bias leads to biased conclusions.
These sites seem to get ZERO representation in the data set:
    google
    bing
    yahoo
    walmart
    weather.com
    <your bank>.com
    youtube
    twitter
    facebook
    or even ... sevenforums

I'm surprised too ... that anyone would lend credence to numbers derived from such a limited sample.
    I'm not sure I follow.
The government's data, derived from 1.39 billion web visits to more than 37 government agencies over the last 90 days, ...
Sample bias in 1949 produced this incorrect prediction:

    Computer/Teacher
    Teacher/Computer

Computers are added to a classroom to help the teacher teach not to replace the teacher.

Computers are kind of like what we use to have. Teachers Aids where there to help the students that needed extra help. Some how it worked for thousands of years. It worked so well some of those students created computers.

Yes I did but your essay doesn't indicated what your position is on the subject.

    From you essay.

My position is and was, computers are a tool whether in or out of a class room.
In a classroom they are used to aid the teach to teach and the students to learn.

Others that think a computer can replace a teacher in my mind are wrong in their thinking.

My position to that is computers are useful tools to help a teacher teach and make students learn better. In addition to that,I think students in that way won't be so bored:)

The present time LB ? I kind of feel the older you get the more likely you will remain a desktop person , we as people tend to become less portable with age and i would think a non portable device would suit us best .
