Download over nine years of Microsoft security updates in ISO format

Many IT Pros know that Microsoft releases their monthly Patch Tuesday security updates as a downloadable ISO image each month as a tool that can be used by IT departments to manually update local systems.

Well did you also know that Microsoft has all of these images listed in a single Knowledge Base (KB) article?

According to Microsoft these monthly images are released so that system administrators in the following scenarios can easily distribute the updates:
  • Manage large multinational organizations
  • Must download multiple individual language versions of each security update
  • Do not use an automated solution such as Microsoft Windows Server Update Services (WSUS)
As I was browsing through my RSS feeds this morning I saw a link to the August ISO download and decided to check out the Related Resources link, https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/913086, that was provided in the KB article.

As I mentioned above, that KB article lists every single monthly ISO that Microsoft has released with their Patch Tuesday security updates since January 2006...

I'm thinking that the only updates that need screening are the important ones since optional updates can be initially ignored and later screened and installed as time and need permits. MS will have had time to pull any bad updates and either fix or replace them with the exception of the past year when the spyware and upgrade prep updates started. Those wouldn't take all that long to screen. Any company large enough to have an IT department will have the manpower to do all that screening plus they should have the resources to already know which updates to watch out for. Heck, I have my own update Specialized High Intensity Training List.

Microsoft should release a post service pack 1 Rollup update of all this, like they did after service pack 4 for windows 2000...

but they won't they Hate windows 7 and want to force you to 10...

I agree. Once upon a time, a long time ago, in a dark, enchan....whoops, got carried away. Moving right along, I had once wished for an SP2 but, if MSpy were to do one now, it would include all the spyware and Win 10 updates.

Yep I have no problem at all culling through the recommended and optional updates and getting rid of the problematic ones first :)
Also double checking the reclassified Important ones too :p
