I've said it before, but until Linux, and and its varients, get on board with the gaming sites, then thats when MS will really start losing "customers"..

Or someone develops a Linux program that will do a better job of running Windows or Mac programs than Wine. I would be all over that like stink on skunk.
Wine is good on older 16 bit programs.

Here some interesting info for wine on windows.

Having issues and not having the time to upgrade was not a factor in my decision to go back to 7 , Win 10 worked just fine for me .

What i hated was the entire Win 10 experience , the windows store was one of the things that i disliked most , just way way too much crap integrated into Win 10 that i have zero interest in .

Most of it is a nightmare to try to remove or can't be removed without effecting the whole OS negatively.

Unless you want to upgrade to 10 yes win-10's update need to be on Hide
Obviously you missed some win-10 preparation updates from being installed otherwise the 10 update would not be there.

    Use a VM

Just install VMware Player in your chosen Linux Distro.
Once that is done you can run any version of Windows you want, as a VM.

Unless you need to run modern games or you are using a program that has some special needs, you shouldn't have any problems.

I have an XP VM with my old games installed in it.
I can play them when I'm using LM17.2 or W7.

I also have DOSBox installed in the XP VM, so I can play even older games (like Doom II).

You can also install Dosbox in Linux as well. It is little trickier to figure out how to mount it and the cd/dvd as well. The dosbox folder needs read/write access as well-my experience.

MS are going to keep doing this until 2020.

The only thing that will stop them is if this creates a huge backlash against W10 and people stop installing it (like the W8 series).
Oh, I pray they give up on that.

    I know....I know....
