Plus the Outlook issue this is really a bit much. I make a system image now as a routine procedure before installing important updates. I haven't bothered with optional updates for a while and may be missing out on some important fix but what do you do with all these update issues.

I had a problem with Outlook 2013 crashing after yesterdays updates. I did a repair on both my email accounts & the one that caused the problem was the Windows Live Mail account, after this was repaired using the Outlook repair the crashing problem has been fixed.
To do the Outlook repair, open Outlook, select File & then select Account Settings, then click on each of your email accounts individually & use the Repair option that is shown in the menu. After doing that the problem was fixed & no more crashing.

The Outlook issue is tied to KB3097877. I was crashing all over the place when trying to open emails with https links/references - removing this update - removed the issue.

    Cheers!

Microsoft keeps sending me the same KB3097877 update published 12/10. I phoned them and was told there will be a new update with a different publishing date soon.

Yesterday, I hid KB3097877 and it reduced the number of 11/10/15 updates from 13 to 12. After the daily update check today, KB3097877 is no longer on my hidden list and is back in the update list as important. The update count went from 12 back to 13. I guess I'll keep hiding it and postponing doing the updates for awhile.

One last question: Given the many occasions where I have continued to read info in various forums about problematic Windows Updates - would it be advisable to wait a few days before downloading and installing this latest batch of updates?
Yeah, that's a good policy. Oftentimes, problematic updates are quickly identified and replaced.

You might also make an image of your existing system before installing updates--in case you cannot otherwise extricate yourself from a bad outcome.
It's a policy I've been following for quite some time now. I wait until Saturday to download and install the updates after I make fresh image of my OS (C: drive). It's saved me from bad updates several times,

Just as "jamis" mentioned above...I did the same thing yesterday with this problematic update, and it is now being shown again in the Windows Update check I just did. It's listed as "Important", but not as an "Office" update, but one for "Windows 7 x64...".

No way to know if this newly-arrived KB3097877 update is a revised one which is not going to cause the previously-reported problems, so looks like I'll just have to hide this one as well and wait to see if any problems with it are reported here or elsewhere - before taking the risk of installing it.

[EDIT]: Much obliged for your input, Jeannie! Just noticed it after I'd already posted this reply.

    Regards everyone.

I installed the reissued patch. No problems here at all with Outlook.

    Security Update KB3097877

Security Update KB3097877 has resulted in a lot of buzz in the Internet. It seems to (maybe) correct an earlier release that was causing MS Outlook to crash.

I installed it without any problems on my Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium notebook, even though I do not have or use MS Outlook. However, I also have a Windows 7 32-bit Home Basic netbook. When I viewed the updates for later installation (I NEVER will do automatic updates for obvious reasons as everyone knows), it was a security update that was not selected so I selected it, clicked OK, and then bailed out to do what I bought my computers to do - actual work...

Later, when I was ready to install (I only install the security updates), once again - it was not selected. All the other security updates installed with no problem. However, I tried once again to see what would happen if I selected KB3097877, clicked OK, and then bailed out. Then later, I when back in to see if this update was still selected, and once again, it was unchecked.

Since I NEVER have installed or used MS Outlook, and never will, I am beginning to think that this is an update that only is necessary for those who have MS Outlook installed. Therefore, my question is:

Can I just hide this update on my 32-bit computer?
