Debian mourns the passing of Ian Murdock

With a heavy heart Debian mourns the passing of Ian Murdock, stalwart proponent of Free Open Source Software, Father, Son, and the 'ian' in Debian.

Ian started the Debian project in August of 1993, releasing the first versions of Debian later that same year. Debian would go on to become the world's Universal Operating System, running on everything from embedded devices to the space station.

Windows 7 Professional SP1 64bit, Debian GNU/Linux 64bit (virtual machine on a RAM drive)

I very much enjoy using Debian and use it both for hosting servers and for running on some of my desktop/laptop systems as the main OS. In my mind it is the definitive and optimal version of GNU/Linux, even for gaming (SteamOS is built on it too). I'm very grateful for the work and vision that has made it a reality and the best OS I have ever used.

Pretty much every major version of GNU/Linux is built off of or based on Debian. There's a reason for that. These are people who work diligently, often times without thanks and gratitude, for the benefit of everyone.

I still willingly use Windows 7 of course, but hopefully one day I won't need to use Windows at all. We should all be so lucky.

The world is a better place for having had Ian.

By-passing windows UAC window on particular programs ?

I am trying to launch msiexec to install a package. If I launch it from a CD disc, then it works fine. If I lanuch it on the network, it fails. Its a question about paths I think. I wonder if msiexec.exe can handle easily network paths , especially if I pass it: msiexec.exe /package...
