    I built a LM17.3 MATE VM a few days ago (HDD-based VM and ISO) using VMware Workstation.

    Once the live session had loaded, it took ~5 minutes to install the entire OS and programs.

    Note:
    I disconnected the network, so that it wouldn't try to download a huge stack of language packs.

    This is what I have chosen, and have since their updates started nearly bricking my PC thanks to driver-update incompatibilities. I don't get this forced update nonsense.

    Mandatory updates well with the new win-10 updating system it's not all that weird,
    The default setting is to get updates from other machines on the internet also other local networks
    So it is an interesting concept but very risky if a computer is infected
