    Accidental W10 Upgrade Updates

To back up the marketing knob's statement (from a couple of weeks ago) MS is probably using smaller Update bundles, so that it looks like W7 is becoming more insecure.
In short order Microsoft will claim that Win7 is such a security risk that MS MUST push a "security update" that will update the OS to Win10.
I'm expecting them to "accidentally" release a few updates that automatically upgrade W7 to W10.

When that tactic becomes to controversial, they'll move on to Security updates.

That will generate a series of lawsuits that will hold up in court since Microsoft promised to provide extended support until 01/14/2020.
It depends on the exact legal definition of the words MS used.

I've noticed that various legal terms have meanings that don't match normal language.

IMO, if we had proper "Democratic" governments most legal documents should be ruled invalid, as it is impossible to understand them unless you are a judge or lawyer.

Not mine... Windows Update is completely disabled, not even the service is running UNLESS I need to install a critical/security patch.

    Take that, MS...

But most of the updates classified Important are security updates. If Windows update is completely disabled you surely miss these. Where do you draw the line?

If I see an automatic from W7 to W10 in progress I will hopefully perform a hard shutdown before any license authentication takes place. Then reimage and then disable updates.

This works quite well for me,

Upgrade to Windows 10 Update - Enable or Disable in Windows 7 or 8.1 - Windows 10 Forums

I'm not getting anything forced on me and I have all the 10 related updates installed on a W7 and W8.1.

Same here. I just turn it on once a month - the weekend following patch Tuesday. I install whatever security updates/fixes I need (ignoring any Windows 10 related updates) and then I disable it again.
But I check https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/894199 regularly to see what's being released.

Now I don't feel so bad running the original Windows 8, because I also turned off the Windows Update service and cleared the DataStore as well. However I have now turned on the service again, so I can install compatible Server 2012 updates. But I don't search for updates any more.

I always check the Internet Storm Center for their take on all MS patches (I've gone there for more than 15 years). If they relate to my patern of use then I'll install, otherwise I mark HIDE.

Anymore the patches don't mean much to/for me as I've moved over to Linux for 95%+ of my Internet activities...and I found I'm really not missing anything I need.
