Windows 7 Professional 64-bit

I've had it for a few couple weeks now. Tons better than Vista and definitely a worthy successor to XP. I love it.

When running Vista here dual booted with XP I found it quite a bit more stable then not only XP but older Legacy versions seeing far fewer problems to start with. With the first two service packs now seen many are reporting favorable results for the previous version there.

7 however saw a large turnaround of too much too soon packed into the other version which became an obstacle for many sadly to say despite the improvements that were made there. Learning that lesson MS had to reexamine things quite a bit and has come up with a worthy successor to Vista as well as XP.

Having come up from the old dos days until now I have to say that right now 99% + people right here on the forum won't be giving up on 7 any time soon! Despite that the betas and RCs were put through the mill before spending on the retail Ultimate those always came out on top!

Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit & Ubuntu 10.04

Running it has actually been a pleasure.

It is a complete step up from Vista. I actually use it more that Ubuntu 9.10.

Not happy...

I'm using Windows 7 on a Acer Ferrari One for 2 weeks, it was great initially but now I'm very disappointed. I searched this forum, I found many users with problems noted after resume from sleep/hibernate. Abnormally high CPU use, erratic wireless/audio/video, etc. My system exhibits cracks/pops on audio, dropped frames on video, some screen savers won't play, windows media player won't maximize on video playback, sluggish touchpad response. The only error I found was a disabled Direct3D. After installing the latest BIOS, video & DirectX drivers, the problem keeps on repeating itself after resume. The only solution is a cold reboot. I'm very disappointed because I was very happy with both Win XP and Vista for years.

Windows 7

Thanks for posting and thanks to all you who added your experiences.

I have to say, I've got Windows 7 on a couple machines (including an HTPC) and things are pretty darn good.

Again, thanks for the original post and thanks for the comments, people.

Like I was mentioning before I've actually been pounding on 7 since beta moving onto the RCs and still running one now with the retail 32bit, 64bit installations on 3 separate HDs to compare them side by side under load. Once any initial problems are seen to like a problem with an addon device or a video or sound problem 7 has actually shown itself far more responsive overall.

For a period of time with the RCs I had the XP Mode running at the same time as having a custom install of Vista on a separate vhd running to try and tax 7 there. 7 came through all that smiling as usual once again!

My first days with a Windows 8 phone
I became adventurous and spent $79 for a Windows 8 phone. I said to myself what can you lose, I spent similar money for a USB stick. But what I can gain is some experience - as if I needed that at my age, LOL. My first impressions are mixed. There are really 3 parts to it. 1. The Nokia part...

What gives? By the way I hibernate my computer every night if that matters. Also the first recent bsod was yesterday and a Minidump was not created.

Ok, so I haven't totally ditched Windows 7...but considering how few problems I have had and the fact that I have been running it for quite some time on my home computer, I decided to start playing around with the new Ubuntu 9.10 Beta release on my work laptop. Thus far, everything is going...
