It's time for Microsoft to fix the Windows 7 update slowdowns

I Found a couple installed from Callender's list and uninstalled. Will they be offered again?

No. They are "Windows Update Client" upgrades and only future versions will install automatically. The old versions can only be installed manually.

   Note
Okay here's my list of problem WUC's to check for removal (the ones that caused problems)

KB 2990214 - Apr 2015 - WUC: enables ability to upgrade to Win10

KB 3065987 - Jul 2015 - WUC: unspecified "improvements" (replaces 3050265) adds telemetry

KB 3075851 - Aug 2015 - WUC: fixes mess due to KB3065987 [cuts down WUC memory usage, but hides Update notifications if GWX app is active] (replaces 3065987)

KB 3083324 - Sep 2015 - WUC: unspecified "improvements" (replaces 3075851) adds telemetry

KB 3083710 - Oct 2015 - WUC: unspecified "improvements" (replaces 3083324) adds telemetry

Before running the updates for my wife's laptop, I checked and found 2 of the above updates so I uninstalled both.
Unfortunately her laptop is still running the updates S-L-O-W. I think to MS this is all just a big W7 cat and mouse game.

This is my little Specialized High Intensity Training list of Win 10 downgrade, telemetry, and vague updates to avoid. So far, I haven't had any problems with slow updates.

Any chance you can post that list in numerical order so I can cross-check against my own list?

I don't think I've got that many items in my own list.

I've been having these naughty thoughts that I might just bend over and allow myself to be assimilated by Win 10, so I need the strength to resist.

I added those numbers as I encountered them and I've been too lazy to put them in order. When I get updates, I just run dowm the list and compare the last four digits. It goes plenty fast.

Edit: This is your lucky day, my friend. I'm killing time waiting for some epoxy to cure enough to allow trimming with a razor blade so I went ahead and put them in numerical order for you:

Thank you very much; that goes into my master file on the issue.

You had 6 I didn't have.

I have 4 on my list as "suspect" that aren't on your list. Do your own diligence on them:

KB3112148; first seen 12/8/15; “more info” link gives error, so this is suspect

KB3118401; first seen 2/28/16; update for Universal C Runtime in Windows 10

KB3139929; hidden as of 031216; this has been discussed on this forum and is confusing.

Thanks for sharing!

KB3112148 is a time zone for some countries I'll never deal with so I didn't install it. I ignore time zone updates anyway unless they are for the U.S.

KB3118401 apparently never came up for me because it isn't installed on my computer. I added it to my list anyway.

KB3139929 was installed on my computer but GWX Control Panel must have blocked the Win 10 ad. I removed it and added it to my list.

KB3150513 wasn't installed on my computer. I added it to my list anyway.

Uninstalling the updates does,t fix the problem. The list was posted as "WUC clients that have caused problems on my machine" - subsequent WU search slowdowns/ high RAM usage at some point. The fix for me was not as simple as removing those updates.

Most of the posts in your list that didn't appear in mine were for Win 8.1. One or two were for time zone updates; I don't install time zone updates for countries other than the U.S. Most of the remaining few weren't installed on my computer so they probably weren't offered to me.

The first one on my list was a typo and shouldn't have been there. The correct number was in your list.

Yes, I was anal enough to check them all.

The only "recommended" updates I install these days are ones which have specific crashes detailed in the descriptions (e.g. fixing a crash caused by a previous security update). Or if it's adding something which seems beneficial (Windows update plugin in the Disk Cleanup Wizard). Most of the others don't seem relevant to my systems. And a lot of recent ones seem more aimed towards a server environment.

I do install ALL security updates manually.

Yep I believe most of the fun is If the update system actually finds updates the way it supposed too :)

Installing them has always been another fun experience slightly different than finding them ;)

Oh yea I guess I do have 25 now I haven't loaded the 10 I showed are just what I deem 10 related.
Other 15 are mostly remote desktop.... stuff.
