Yep, WLM 2012 will still work with Outlook, Brds7t7.

However, all users or this app, be warned, if you use IMAP or POP, automatic contact and callendar syncronization will not work as it used to be. Cannot be helped since M$ tied those to email sync with their private protocol. But at least, you can still use WLM to check your mails, which is a big win over the bloated Outlook.com web interface.
Agreed! Can't say I've ever used WLM for my Calendar or contacts anyway as I use my Gmail for that. I just like to have all my email accounts consolidated into one program and I find WLM 2012 the easiest to use.

Calender is the only thing I like about hotmail/ outlook.com :)
I'm surprised so many don't have a holiday calender option

A key issue for me is retaining a specific email address eg. *@hotmail.com. I have many interactions that use my hotmail address. I want to keep the email address above all. You also want an email client/ mail user agent that works usefully and reliably. I'm a novice here but I don't know if I could alias my hotmail address to say gmail or whatever else(I doubt it). Any opinions on this?

BTW I have an email account with a big ISP here and the email service is slow beyond belief plus you want to be able to change your ISP.

Your hotmail email address isn't going to change. I've had my hotmail address since 1998 and expect to continue using it well into the forseeable future.

We were just wondering if WLM 2012 would still work, according to MS it wouldn't, but they neglected to tell us that we just needed to change some settings. Anyway, no problems now.

Just as a heads up guys, I had to change some of the settings as my Junk, Sent, Drafts and Deleted folders weren't syncing properly and the all the folders got duplicated.
Went into IMAP settings and changed "Sent Items" to just "Sent", "Deleted Items" to just "Deleted" and "Junk Email" to just "Junk" and all working okay now.

    Hi,

    Let me introduce myself shortly:

As former MCC on Security and Privacy matters at MS Answers, I found 7 Forums as trusty reference, sometimes I have directed people here in the recent past. This is my first comment here.

Well, I have found this site and used IMAP for WLM2012 instructions at About.com with success and I would like to share it with you here at Seven:

I read the article. I have a question... What does "With IMAP access to Outlook Mail, you will not get your contacts and calendars synchronized." mean?? Then how would I access my contacts to send an email ? or save new ones?

    Hi, welcome.

I suggest you to go to the below pointed site for this regarding WLM 2012, because this is a new situation that we have to deal as Exchange ActiveSync discontinues.

Starting form today I cannot connect to hotmail using WLM 2012.
It keeps on saying that the password is wrong and I need to enter it; over and over.
I have it set to use POP server and I check via internet and the online internet mail works.

Is this the end for it or it is just something it will be fix?

You can still use it but you have to follow directions at this link Outlook Mail, Outlook.com, Hotmail in Windows Live Mail

Read down to "Access Outlook Mail, Outlook.com, Hotmail in Windows Live Mail" and follow the directions shown there.
