What I am wondering is, does this mean that if I do a clean install of Windows 7 on a 64 bit PC, I can download the "Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB3125574)" and instead of waiting for 1, or several hours, to download the Windows Updates, this file will download and install ALL updates up to April of 2016, in a short amount of time??!!??

Could someone please verify this? I am just not sure so I would like a second opinion.

    Thanks.....
    Steve
It installs most of the security updates and some recommended update up until April 2016, you'll then only have a few more to install. It definitely saves time.
So if you kept this on a flash drive or CD you can install those updates quickly. It didn't take long to install for me when I tested it.
So.... help me out a bit here as far as doing the initial install of this update.

If I am doing a clean re-install of my Windows 7, once the OS is installed and before ANY updates are downloaded from Microsoft (besides the convenience roll-up updates we're talking about here), how would I go about getting this update installed from a USB stick? The convenience roll-up update file is an "msu" file and not an exe file.

Thanks for any help explaining how I would install this convenience update before I have my computer check for updates after a fresh OS install.

    Steve
Steve, the msu file installs the same as an exe file, just click and it installs.
The best thing to do is, while setting up Windows (during install) select to disable Windows update. If Windows update is running while you try to install this pack it might freeze.
Once the OS is installed plug in flash drive and copy over the files to the PC.
*Install the Servicing stack update KB3020369 first or the pack won't install!* https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/kb/3020369
Start the msu installer, once finished reboot.
All done, you can then enable Windows updates.

Yea I love it when M$ gives instruction in reverse order :)

We’re happy to announce today that we’re making available a new convenience rollup for Windows 7 SP1 that will help. This convenience rollup package, available to download from Microsoft Update Catalog, contains all the security and non-security fixes released since the release of Windows 7 SP1 that are suitable for general distribution, up through April 2016. Install this one update, and then you only need new updates released after April 2016.
And since this update can be injected into Windows 7 SP1 media, it’s fully supported to mount a Windows 7 SP1 image (WIM file), then inject this update into it. See https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd744559(v=ws.10).aspx for the details of how to do this.
This convenience update is completely optional; it doesn’t have to be installed and won’t even be offered via Windows Update – you can choose whether or not you want to use it.
To apply this update, you must install the April 2015 servicing stack update for Windows 7 (KB3020369). You can read more about the Convenience rollup update for Windows 7 SP1 here.
We hope that you find this convenience rollup package useful. This same convenience rollup also applies to Windows Server 2008 R2.

Why would Microsoft release a "convenience" pack and inconveniently not include IE11 when IE8-9-10 are no longer supported?

I haven't updated Windows 7 in a long while now.

    Is this safe to install?

No telemetry or GWX stuff, right?

That is interesting seeing a lot of updates need ie11 or they will fail.

How much time does the roll-up save? Beside I.E. 11 itself, what 2 or 3 updates are needed before I.E. 11 can install? I am not sure if those files are included in the I.E. 11 download.

I found the Prerequisite for I.E. 11 here, just case anyone else wants it.

Thanks I'm sure many will probably need it :)

So does all this confirm we have to now manually install updates and can turn off the retched auto checking off
Or is it easiest to go without updates all together

Go into Internet options and manage add-ons > all add-ons and see if "Microsoft update catalog" is listed.
All ie11 does for me is prompt to install this add-on but never does
    Gives microsoft.com has stopped responding
Another great feature or download/ install bug which happens all too often when the word "Update" is associated with anything from M$
