What I mean is, users who chose to take the free upgrade knew they were giving up their original OS, that's their choice, they chose to give that up. Not a fan of upgrade licences myself, unless for budgetary reasons, then I see the benefit. I'd rather keep my original OS licence. Even though they won't last forever, I can still use them, even if just in VM's. Take the upgrade and you've given up that right.

Now, as for paying for expensive licences and then taking away features, that I definitely would not be happy about, and I can see why some people are annoyed. Let's just hope MS doesn't take it too far. I haven't chosen to buy any 10 licences yet, and so far, I don't regret it.

I can see MS taking away more group policies and options in future builds. Let's hope I'm proven wrong as I don't think it will do MS any favours. I'm not one of these doom and gloom mongers who wants MS to go under, but I do think there are some decisions they need to rethink at the moment. They've done reversals on a few silly decisions lately, sometimes it feels like they're seeing how far they can push people.

A lot of people are very happy with Windows 10 and good for them I say, as long as it fulfills their needs and they get what they need out of the product, then I'm all for that. For my day to day needs and what I use Windows for, I have no need to upgrade just yet. Upgrading just for the sake of having the latest and greatest isn't something that interests me. I've just been offered a brand new swanky upgrade on my 2 year old phone and I've chosen not to take it as my current phone does what I need it to do. I'm big into tech, but I don't feel the need to upgrade all my devices every 6 months.

Totally understand and agree ! I only follow this thread out of curiosity, my laptop is way to old to upgrade and I am perfectly happy with it :).

I got Windows 7 Professional. GREAT !!!!!

It all depends on what MS wants,
if your the run of the mill Johnny, you lose control
if your a small/medium company user your rights are gradually being eroded (pro).
If your a large organisation using Enterprise you still have some rights,
the caviat on this
IF like many worldwide Institutions/governments etc they still use XP, thats more than why likely there share went up (would THEY allow MS to be able to control info)

BUT what im really waiting for are the next set of figures, that will include the 30 day rollbackers.

If you are concerned about losing your pro features, I think your retail pro can be downgrade to windows 10 home or windows 7 sp1 pro. I think you can also do some of the 10 pro tweaks on windows 10 home by using registry tweaks. Microsoft hasn't block those for the home yet.

And, those of us who were skeptical enough to have done an image of W7/8, prior to allowing MS to install W10. I did on both of my W10 "upgrades" & glad I did. If MS thinks that there was a lot of XP holdouts when its support ended, just wait till they see how many stay with W7/8.

Yea I'm a little tiered of all the tweaks and workarounds :)
I'm also tiered of uninstalling all the apps Micro... keeps reinstalling.
It shouldn't be this way.

Once they start removing items I doubt they will stop.

They started removing features from Windows at Windows XP (Active Desktop and Terminal services cut compared to Win2000). Later they removed features in each consecutive Windows release, adding much less.

I think Thrash was specifically talking about removing Group Policies that were in place in the previous build. I've seen a lot of complaints about that and I don't think it's a smart move from MS, especially if people have paid good money for Pro licences. It doesn't apply to home editions as they don't have Group Policy Editor anyway. Not sure what happens with regards to the corresponding reg entries though. I'm assuming they just don't do anything.

Yep that was the point of getting pro to not have to mess with the registry stuff.............
Just whack a few services and a little GP and it's done.

Well the other most obvious reason for pro is to control other users on my... machine which is diminishing starting with the anniversary update.

Do you know that Metro thread still consumes processing power even if you do not use it? You have to kill the thread with Process Hacker so to release resources.
