Back in October, 2014, Microsoft promised an end to cloud storage limits, saying that anyone with a paid Office 365 subscription would get unlimited OneDrive storage. After upgrading a number of users to 10TB or unlimited storage, the company announced that it would be breaking that promise, citing the fact that some users had abused the policy by using their unlimited storage for unlimited storage.
Users were told that they would have a year to get their affairs in order, and in December, we learned that anyone with more than 1TB of OneDrive storage would be chopped down on March 1, which is today. This means that if you have more than 1TB stored in OneDrive, it's time to get it out.
If you've checked your OneDrive today, you've probably found that your storage limit is still what it was, but to be clear, Microsoft has confirmed to Neowin that these changes are indeed going into effect, and it may take up to 48 hours to see the changes...

This is a prime example why I advise against using free cloud storage.

I also don't understand how it is a abuse to use the free storage as it was offered, (unlimited). A three legged blind duck would of known from the beginning that some would store TB's of data. Somehow this thought bypassed Microsoft high tech brain power. Cloud storage is fine as long as other methods are also used. I will post it again; trusting others with your storage backup is iffy even if its a paid for version.
Free is addictive. Some kids will take more free candy than other kids. Go figure.

That was taken away unless one claimed it I forget how I didn't bother doing it :)

This may be off topic but of a similar vein. I had an email account that was free (they all used to be?) and I joined for 2 years. It was "inbox.com" and one day I get an email stating that they are only allowing paid customers now and unless I pay 10 bucks I will lose all access to my account. Sadly I now found several sites that seem to be playing the same game. This may be becoming a giant trend in marketing on it's way.....or maybe not!
This is old hat. It is called the "Bait and Switch" - Promotions are designed to boost short-term sales by providing irresistible value propositions to consumers. Coupons, holiday sales events, mail-in rebates and giveaways all fall under the promotions category. The "bait and switch" tactic is widely considered unethical, yet many companies still practice this promotions technique. With bait and switch, a company advertises a significant discount on a valuable product, but stocks only a small number of that item in stores. Customers are lured in by the great deal, only to discover that a completely different and often inferior product is being promoted instead. Avoid this tactic at all costs. Even though it is legal, the bait-and-switch tactic can tarnish your ethical reputation quickly.
37.9 of 40 GB used for me. Would have been nice to keep that extra 100 GB, though.
Another way of looking at Cloud storage.
At the low prices of your own storage using hard drives, thumb drives and or SSD's; what is the big deal if you loose a little free Cloud storage?
For those that want access to their 60 or 100 gigs of data when traveling, just put it on a thumb drive and hide the thumb drive in the secret pocket in your underwear. Maybe some thumb drive ear rings would meet ones needs.
