Can't system image anyway I have no more hdd space reordered another 1tb hdd Sunday and probably won't show up till Saturday or possibly Monday

What was your disk management configuration by the way C only or did you have a system reserved partition too ?

    windows update

Hello Thrashzone, The last windows updates I downloaded and installed were in November, as my pc
gives me nice black screens on startup for awhile after installing them. It is running really well now without
them. I know I should do the security only updates, but when they cause trouble they are not worth it.
I know someone who has not updated their Windows 7 machine for 6 years, and everything is still working,
and he has not had any problems. I will probably have another go one day, but do not want any headaches
    at the moment.

no system reserved and have three partitions. The update screwed up flags, drive labels and letters hence the boot problem. Have now got correct drive letters using partition assistant in PE. Did not try booting into windows. Currently attempting macrium backup restore.

    Hi,
Were your images on the same drive ?
That would not be good if they were

Wow I don't know about 6 years with no updates that's whack
November though as long as it's 2016 wouldn't be all that bad but issues are issues coming from windows updates.
As long as one did not use internet explorer I suppose vulnerabilities can be lessened a tad :/

Well, I only had three indicated as important, but only the rollup installed successfully the first time, the Win7 and malicious thing failed on the first go, but succeeded on the second. Each time though Windows wanted to check the consistency of drive P: which is my PortableApps drive containing most of the browsers and utilities I use. Both times I just hit a random key to stop the disk check because in distant times Windows has cocked things up when just ran on its own. Perhaps it is time to migrate the suite to a new USB stick.

    ?

Did a disk check an hour later from within the GUI hope this satisfies Windows' requirement.

    I just got this one:

EDIT: Okay forget that. It's an old one.
The IE security updates still haven't appeared. I can only assume now that if we go the "Security-only" route then we also have to manually install the IE security updates too. I'm sure those were included in the "security-only" updates before?

Ditto on that. Macrium Reflect backup restore fails. In PE windows partition shows as unallocated. Startup repair advanced options are missing. Looks like I need to delete partition and reinstall windows.
    Again....

Only got offered the security Roll-up and MSRT, important, 2664 was optional (telemetry).

Same here on both my machines, but the optional updates also included a Silverlight one (I don't have it installed so that's hidden) and, on one machine, an AMD SMBus update which I've also hidden.

Nothing will be installed by me for at least a couple of weeks. I shall see what Susan Bradley, Woody Leonhard and other Windows gurus - including those here, of course - make of it all first.

I had the security roll-up, MSRT, and hid optional 2664. D/L and install took less than 10". I wish the win10 side would've been as nice but 10 took about 50", here's what I had for win10:

@Callender I didn't have any re-boot issues, maybe your updates D/L became corrupt somehow?

@Brds7t7 I never hid the rollup and I and others are experiencing the same missing IE update, I have IE11. Windows update catalogue (WUC) doesn't say it IE's included.

I also did a WUC search for the IE updates with no results to show.

Yea, 20" Took me 3hours to get what shows done in the pix, I still have 'bout an hour to finish the red outline, and then an hour to clean off the vehicles...Friday the 17th will be my one year anniversary for my triple bypass, I used to get 20" done in 2hours; Walkways, driveway, and vehicles. It's he** when you get old...

@BlueGuy This portableapps drive is it a flash drive and did you try the updates with the flash drive still in the machine? That might be why windows was confused and wanted to run a DSKCHK.

Well... I have some more snow to do but I'll wait until all you guys get here to help , if not I have to get going...

Boot issues fixed without reinstalling windows. Had to wipe C and then restore image. Then needed to fix drive letters and paths on non windows partitions.

Now my router has packed up.

Anyway it seems that something in the update screwed up drive letters and labels. Currently backing up all data to 1TB external drive.
