It is not normally a problem when I processor ages, microsoft will normally support any processor that has been supported as long as the manufacturer is still supporting it - Microsoft basically forwards updates that are initially developed by others for hardware, (the only drivers MS make are for their own hardware, all others are written by other manufacturers for their equipment).

If the hardware is working on a system with Windows 7 now it should do so until it fails or some other component fails and the replacement for either uses technology that is not supported by Windows 7

Thank you Barman58 for replying, I have no idea about Microsoft's plans with anything really. I always

rely on 7 forums when I have not got a clue what to expect. Have a nice day.

Hello Everyone, I am now able to install the monthly roll ups, and have downloaded and installed the April

one, and have had no problems, but now I am wondering as my amd A4-5300 is now over 3 years old,

is it one that Microsoft will still support, or will it be looked at as too old?
Hi Ethel, older is a good thing....

I don't believe you have anything to worry about for now, newegg has it as a 2nd gen processor and the April KB is looking for 6th gen and newer.

    See highlight:

My i3-530 was made in January of 2010 and was called "Clarkdale", your "Trinity" I believe in October 2012.

    Well so far so good.

I just installed the Rollup and things seem to working properly.
    sfc /scannow finds no problems.

Don't ask. I did make a Clone before installing the Rollup. One never knows.

    The system is a X79 - LGA 2011

After a little while without any problems I will install it on my X99 system.

Anyone know if the Skylake-S processors are affected by the blocking? I'm assuming they're not, but I'm looking at buying the 6600k or 6700k for my next build before the prices get ramped up too much. At least then I can keep using Windows 8.1 until 2023 and not have to worry about any blocking.

    Hi,
I haven't kept up with skylake
Seems to me another x99 and possibly a i7 6800k... might be good enough and no restrictions :)
But then again 6800 is a newer generation cpu too so it might be in the same boat ?

I'm confused now. I just looked up the 6800k on Intel and it says it's Broadwell-E. I thought Broadwell came before Skylake though? I thought the order was Haswell -> Broadwell -> Skylake? Or have I got these completely mixed up?

Hello Anak, Thank you for that. I do not have a lot of faith in Microsoft anymore, but now I know I am safe

You're welcome, I was looking for Brds skylake-s and my advice to him would be to go ahead and get the CPU but make sure he has backups so he can run in case he gets snagged.

Brds and other custom builders are in a unique situation, there are 16 different OEMs that are working with MS to clear their machines from the trap until 2020, but he custom builds his so where is the line drawn?
I would think that if the other components of the build clear MSs other tests so should the CPUs but that's thinking logically and businesses don't think logic, only $.

I did find one reference to skylake-s in this wiki and another, that I can't find now (apologies brds) that the line is whether or not the s version runs ddr4 sdram if it does he's snagged so your damned if you do and damned if you don't...
